My Lively August

Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing what I’ve been up to in August – fun-wise!

My Lively August

I do have quite a bit for this month, so let’s just jump right in!

My Lively

Creative Fun

DIYs

I go to two craft nights this month at my local library! One was painting a rock to look like a cactus for a rock cactus garden! The other was a geometric painting where you put down masking tape and then paint the shapes within the masking tape.

This other DIY wasn’t a craft night, but I did go to a floral arranging class and I had a blast! A local florist came in with a simple bouquet and taught us to arrange it. I immediately felt called to do a certain design, and while everyone else did an arrangement that would look great from all angles, I ended up making a front-facing arrangement. The instructor seemed surprised at first but was totally cool with it! And I loved how my arrangement ended up. I did post it on Instagram (StarringPamela there!) if you want to see it!

Bujo

I’ve had quite a bit to fill up my August pages! I have had a few packing lists going since my Mexico trip is going to be half beach vacay and half small town that gets chilly in the mornings or at night vacay so I felt like I was packing for two completely different trips! I also had to plan out what Fox needed for his boarding vacay.

Entertainment

Books

As always, I’m listing all the books I’ve finished since the previous Lively post below with their star ratings. All thoughts on them are saved for future (or even past!) Mini Book Review posts but those will be linked below if so. I won’t include any books that I didn’t finish although I’ll be sure to add them into the review posts.

Also, I started a Bookstagram! Find me under @StarringPamelaReads on Instagram!

Right now I’ve read 97 books, so 149% of my original goal of 50 books! In full transparency, some of these were read at the end of July and just didn’t make it into that last month’s post. So here’s the books!

  • Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel, 5 stars
  • Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima, 5 stars
  • Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey, 4.25 stars
  • The Water Will Come by Jeff Goodell, 4.5 stars
  • Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, 3.75 stars
  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry, 5 stars
  • Unthinkable by Jamie Raskin, 4 stars
  • Castles in their Bones by Laura Sebastian, 4.25 stars
  • Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney, 4.5 stars
  • A $500 House in Detroit by Drew Philip, 4 stars

Movies

I actually haven’t watched any movies this month! Crazy!

TV Shows

TV shows I have watched though! I’m watching Community and am now on season 4. I do really love the show and I find it so funny how differently I think of some of the characters as time goes on.

I’ve watched a few more episodes of Madam Secretary but not too many so I’m still on season 1 there. I do really enjoy the show and I forget how much is packed into each season.

I did finish up the original Gilmore Girls series. I’m about to go on vacation at the time that I’m writing this (I’m trying to write a ton of posts ahead of time so I have stuff going up before/during/after the trip) so I’m going to wait until after I’m back to watch A Year in the Life.

I also watched a few more episodes of Rebelde season two. I think I’m on episode 6 now, and I wanted to finish it before my vacation but I have to be in a certain mood to watch it. Also, I do find it very weird that these are high school kids, not like college kids.

I did start the reality show Made in Mexico on Netflix too. I’ve only watched about two-thirds of the 1st episode to be honest but it’s a lot. It focuses on the top 1% of Mexico, so it’s super unrealistic to most people but it’s interesting enough.

Podcasts/YouTube

I’ve listened to a few podcasts! First up, as always, is The Morning Toast. I really thought Claudia had moved in with Olivia! But then she went back to NYC and is now with Jackie again, and I believe Margo is visiting too, when I’m writing this, so that’s so fun! I love how close all the sisters are. As for the show, the stories have been great and the girls are so funny so I’m always entertained. I also did listen to The Readheads podcast which features Jackie and Margo along with two other gals Becky and Dana, for A Flicker in the Dark which was their pick last month.

I’ve recently started listening to Workin’ on Meghan Trainor. I find it so cool and fun to listen to! Specifically I’ve listened to the ones with her husband so that’s a ton of fun.

I also listened to How I Built This, an NPR podcast, and loved the Sorry Girls episode. It was so fun to listen to and I have loved their YouTube channel so it was really cool.

One more great podcast episode is for Hyphen-ated. I loved the “How Animation Is Made with PHINEAS AND FERB creator Dan Povenmire”. I LOVED listening to Joanna and Dan talk about Phineas and Ferb and other fun thing in the animation industry. Dan is super funny on TikTok and I love it when he comes up on my FYP. It’s also cool as Dan is married to a Venezuelan so they talked about that, which is super fun. I love it!

Video Games

I did play some Animal Crossing: New Horizons this month! I have been busy trying to make sure I have customized every color variation for the craftable items as much as possible. I also did try to make as many of those items as possible although most of the ones left over are because they either A) require gold nuggets and I ran out of those fast or B) they require diving creatures for some of the cooking recipes and I hate diving.

Active Life

Yoga

I went to a sunrise yoga class! I saw it randomly on my local town’s Facebook group, so I decided to go. It was so early but so fun! The class took place on a nearby beach to me, so it was awesome looking out to the lake and doing some yoga. It was a very fun and cool class for sure. I only went once because I just recently found out this happens weekly! The first week I planned to go I missed it because we had a garage sale going on so it was busy around the house. The second week was when I went. And the third week it was cancelled as it had been storming all night and was supposed to keep raining/storming during the class time. Hopefully I’ll be able to go again in September.

Walks

I’ve been enjoying walks with my pup! He seems to finally be enjoying them more, but still isn’t a huge fan. If he could skip walks, he totally would.

Ballet/Jazz

My dance classes were so incredibly fun! Ballet is the class I’ve been doing the longest and the one I’m better at, but I kind of think I’m enjoying jazz more??? It’s new, it’s fun, and it’s so much more casual for me! I love it!

So that’s what I’ve been up to lately! Let me know what hobbies you’ve been enjoying this month!

Thanks for reading!
