My Monthly Challenge Update Pt. 6: Goodbye Daily Dog Training, Hello Daily Reading

Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing my update on how my monthly challenge went last month and what my plans are for my new goal!

Now, I need to start out by explaining this monthly challenge thing! So, every month I pick a new challenge and try to make it something that I can do every day. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail, but I always give it my best effort and honestly, isn’t that what it’s all about? If you missed the previous challenges, here they are:

January – Daily Yoga

February – Write a Short Story Every Day

March – Daily Workouts

April – Drink More Water

May – Daily Blogging

June – Daily Dog Training

Oh, I should mention that they are linked as their “hello” post introducing each challenge, so if you want to read about how daily yoga went in January after the challenge ended, you actually need to click the next month, which would be February. Anyway, onto the update and new goal!

June’s Monthly Challenge – Daily Dog Training

So last month I wanted to focus on training my dog! Originally I wanted this to be daily dog walks, but my poor pup hurt his leg, so that was out for the first two or so weeks of June. Plus, it’s getting pretty hot out, so that would be cruel! Instead, we focused on training.

Right now, Foxy is focusing on learning new tricks! It’s really helping with his overall demeanor and obedience. He also LOVES training sessions. For him, it’s a really fun game where he gets treats! He loves it so much, he actually will start doing all his tricks to ask for a training session.

This month he’s gotten really good at “paw”! He’s struggling with “high five” and still doesn’t really understand “stand up” but I didn’t focus on those as much because of his hurt leg early in the month. He’s getting really good at “going to bed” and “off” as well. He’s such a good boy and eager to learn! I meant to also introduce him to jumping through a hula hoop but with his leg, we didn’t even get to that.

July’s Monthly Challenge – Daily Reading

Onto the new goal! This month, I decided to do daily reading. Why? Because I have a ton of books I need to read! The library wants them back, weirdly enough.

I almost picked another month of doing a daily activity but did choose reading instead for a few reasons. One, it’s going to be so hot out and I don’t want to feel pressure to get out there if I don’t want to. Also, I’ve been doing it more on my own anyway, so I don’t think it would be much of a “challenge” then. But I do need to read more instead of scrolling TikTok endlessly.

I have two options to complete each day to consider this goal met for each day. Option one is to read at least 50 pages of a book! Now, digital pages are different than physical pages, but I figured I wouldn’t worry about the conversion between them, so just 50 pages of whatever medium I’m using will work. For audio books, I didn’t plan ahead so I’m going to say that listening to 30 minutes of an audio book will do (I listen at 2x speed). Option two is to read at least 5 news articles. In case I didn’t feel like reading a book, I figured I’d give myself another option! Now, I am going to have some travel this month for work, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have to read and so I decided articles would be a good substitute.

So those are my updates on my challenges! Let me know what your goals are for this month, I’d love to know!

Thanks for reading!

Pamela
