Hello everyone! Today I thought I’d share my ballet bag with you!

I originally thought to do a “what’s in my handbag” post because I haven’t done one since Blogmas 2019 but… well I don’t really go anywhere so I don’t have a regular handbag to share right now! The most common bag I use is my dance bag which, to be honest, has the same stuff I would put in a handbag anyway. So I figured I’d share my ballet bag with you instead!
Oh! If you’re new here (newer than May 2020) you might be wondering, what’s BirthMay? Well, every year I blog every day in May because it is my birth month. I just figured it was something fun to do, and it has proven to be really enjoyable for me. This will be the fifth BirthMay on my blog! No matter how many BirthMays you’ve been through with me, thank you for being here this BirthMay and thank you for your support!
What’s in my Ballet Bag?

So my ballet class was virtual for awhile, but when we were able to go back to the studio we did! Of course, masks were required and everything, but I was so happy to be back. The rules for Covid safety were really strict at first, but gradually have been loosening as per state mandates and as vaccines roll out.
So here’s what I’ve been bringing to class! First I’ve been using my “Meet Me At The Barre” bag that I got from a previous FabFitFun box a few years ago when I was subscribed. I’m not a FFF subscriber anymore as I was accumulating way too much stuff from it, but this is one of the items that I have loved the most from those boxes. I don’t remember the brand anymore but I’m sure it’s in the post from whatever box it came from. The reason why I didn’t look it up is because 1) I’m lazy and 2) the bag is pretty cheaply made so I wouldn’t want to promote it honestly. It’s cute and I still have it so I do use it but for me personally, it’s not a great size and it’s not very well made.
More on why it’s not a great size – it doesn’t fit my yoga mat! I know it’s not a yoga specific bag but it’s so long that you would think it could be a bit longer for a mat… I only have a full sized yoga mat and I’m not about to go buy a travel specific mat just for it to fit in my bag so I just carry my mat like a weirdo LOL. Anyway, I will share the brand for my hot pink yoga mat, it’s Embark! I do love my mat. I’ve only ever had this one so I don’t know how it compares to other mats to be honest, but I am happy with this one so I haven’t tried others. I can’t really tell you anything about where this mat is sold or how much it is because I got it from a college friend either in 2011 or 2012. I think the friend was a senior and trying to get rid of stuff. I happened to mention that I wanted to get a yoga mat and she immediately offered me hers, which I accepted. So I don’t know where she got it but I am so grateful to her for the mat. I actually didn’t regularly use it until a few years ago but I’m glad I got into the habit in the end.
Of course I have my wallet! I was using a smaller one actually but once I got my vaccination card I switched to my larger Coach wristlet. I’ve had it for years so the little clasp is pretty weak, so I can’t really use it as an actual wristlet anymore to be honest. But it fits my vaccination card and stuff like my driver’s license and credit card and all that so it’ll have to do.
Then I have my ballet shoes. I’m currently using Capezio split sole canvas shoes. I think they’re a little too big for me but they were the best fitting ones in the store I went to when I bought them. I do like them in general but I think next time I’m in the market for new shoes I’ll try split sole leather shoes and try to get a better fit. I would buy Capezio again, but I wouldn’t limit myself only to this brand. For anyone wondering about these shoes though, they’re the Hanami style!
And I have Covid related items! I have two little bottles of hand sanitizer. Why? I’m honestly not sure. I think I forgot I had one so I threw another in there. It’s kind of weird now that I think about it, because they have hand sanitizer at the building and there’s actually a sink in the studio we use, so we just wash our hands anyway. But I guess it’s good to have! I also have a mask in my bag. Again, masks were required but now if we’re fully vaccinated we can forego the mask. I wasn’t fully vaccinated by the end of the previous session so I still opted to wear one. I will be fully vaccinated by the next session so I think I’ll only wear it in and out of the building and probably do class without one. But it does depend on who is in the next session. So far, everyone in the last session was fully vaccinated but if there is someone new who isn’t, I’m not sure! Plus, I think in general I’m going to keep a mask with me at all times anyway.
So that is what I have in my ballet bag! Again, it’s so big and I don’t even have anything really in there because it’s not long enough for my yoga mat, but it’s ballet themed so I still stick to it!
Thanks for reading!

I love ballet! How long have you been doing it? I did it when I was a teen for a short time and have always thought about starting again.

I love meeting other ballet lovers! I started ballet in 2011, when it was offered as part of the dance major classes at my college but the intro was open to everyone. I did that class for two years and then took it back up a few years ago through a park district near me. I totally recommend you find a class and start ballet again! My experience has been so fun and positive, so I totally recommend it. 🙂

I’m honestly gonna look into it. Would be a great way for me to incorporate exercise into my routine.
