My 2020 Bullet Journal Pt. 4 Blogmas 2020

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to share my final 2020 bullet journal video with you.

I’ve shared parts 1, 2, and 3 already for each quarter of the year. This is the final quarter and a sort of wrap up to the 2020 series. As always, fair warning that this is NOT a super cute and aesthetic bujo. It’s a hot mess! I love it all the same though.

Also, as you can see, I’m doing Blogmas again this year! That means I’ll be blogging every day until Christmas. I’ve done Blogmas in 201620172018, and 2019 so I am happy to be participating again in 2020.

The 2020 Bullet Journal Pt. 4 Video

As promised, here’s the video!

I’ve embedded it here but feel free to make the jump to my YouTube channel (StarringPamela) to give it a like and maybe subscribe? 🙂

Thoughts after a full year of bullet journaling

I really enjoyed my bujo this year. As I mentioned in the video and stated before, I picked it up as an impulsive purchase after I got a bunch of bujo videos in my recommended videos on YouTube. I honestly didn’t think I’d stick with it but then I got to really enjoy it, especially when the lockdown started and I had so much time to journal.

For me, my bujo wasn’t ever a full planner. I use my phone and digital calendar for that! But it is super helpful to staying organized mentally for sure. I’ve started tracking the movies and shows I’m watching for example, so it’s much easier to track there than it was via a photo on my phone. Plus I can write down the meeting IDs for stuff like my virtual ballet classes, so I don’t have to search my email for it each week.

I started a ton of pages and spreads that didn’t end up being useful like the travel page – although no one could have predicted that at the start of 2020. I also ended up adding stuff like YouTube channel stats as the year went on. At the start of the year I only allotted about five spreads to each month but I found myself struggling to fit everything in so I expanded to nine spreads each month. At times it was a struggle to fill up all those pages, but I managed it in the end. When I started my bujo it was super important to me that I didn’t leave any pages blank, as I remember watching a flip through once that had a bunch of blank pages for “later”. The owner of that bujo stated she wished she’d filled them out because she didn’t like seeing blank pages as she flipped through her bujo, and so that really motivated me to fill out every page. Some pages were more minimal, some were a hot mess of color, but all were filled with something.

I was personally super into the idea of it being an actual journal instead of a planner. Hence why I started a daily activity log to write short snippets of what happened each day. As I started baking more I also wrote down where I got the recipes. I have a digital blog planner but I still like to put it in my bujo, same with the classes, and I even started a budgeting log there! (Not shared in the video.)

I think something I want to do differently in 2021 is put less emphasis on the “artsy” portion of the bujo. I can’t draw to save my like, as you can tell with the “coffee cups” in November. I also put so much attention into using different art mediums in my bujo for 2020 like colored pencils, crayons, markets, pens, and even watercolor. I loved experimenting with them but I don’t think I’m going to continue with that at all. I do want a more minimal look for 2021 and to focus on the content on the pages instead of the looks.

As for the 2021 bujo, my goal will be to continue to use it as a personal reflection and organization tool. I’ve structured it a bit different so I can share pages more easily and hide the ones that I don’t want to show. For example, my daily activity log, now going to be called my “life log” is going to be on the same page as the classes so I don’t have to worry about hiding meeting ID’s or too much personal info. Little things like that! I do want to share how I set up the pages though so I’m thinking I’ll do a bit of January and leave it blank so I can record it early and share it before I fill out the pages with too much info.

Long story short, I really enjoyed bullet journaling and I’m excited to continue this new (to me) hobby! I do plan to share a video next month as a sort of “intro” to my 2021 bullet journal. It’ll probably be super short but I think it’ll be fun. It’ll also be “late” because I see so many set ups already on YouTube but *pretend there’s a girl shrug emoji here*.

Thanks so much for watching my video and I hope you enjoyed it! I’ve already started my 2021 journal, and I’m excited to share it!

Thanks for reading!

Pamela
