My 2020 Blog and Life Goals Update Blogmas 2020

Hello everyone! Today, I thought I’d update you on how my 2020 blog and life goals went.

As per usual with me, I write goals down, then promptly forget about them. *Face Palm Emoji* But even so, I like to look back at my 2020 goals and see how my goals went so I wanted to do a little update before creating new ones.

Also, as you can see, I’m doing Blogmas again this year! That means I’ll be blogging every day until Christmas. I’ve done Blogmas in 201620172018, and 2019 so I am happy to be participating again in 2020.

Blog Goals

So, I’m putting the original text for each goal in italics and the new text with the update will be normal text.

Goal #1: Reach 10k views in 2020

Although when I wrote it into my bullet journal (surprise! I started a bullet journal!) this goal looked like 90k. So I want to reach 10,000 views as that would be a little above what I did last year (I think around 8-9k) but not too crazy. The 90k can be the “reach” goal!

Well, I most certainly did NOT accomplish this goal. I’m projecting that I’ll end up with around 7k views by the time 2020 finally wraps up. I have a few theories for this! One, I’m not blogging anywhere near the same amount anymore. Since I have less posts, then each year gets less views. Two, I write this as a sort of lifestyle blog and well, let’s face it, my lifestyle just isn’t very interesting! Not only am I still in lockdown mode, but I’m no longer in school, so I can’t be relatable that way as an example. I also don’t stick to a niche so my blog is allllll over the place! I guess that could be something I could work on “fixing” but I’m really not in this to be blog famous so, is that even worth it? Anyway, I’m grateful for the almost 7k views I have had so far in 2020!

Goal #2: Finally perform blog maintenance

After a few years, I have posts that I don’t really see a purpose for anymore, categories that don’t get used as much as I thought they would, photos taking up space, etc. I really want to do a deep clean of the blog, maybe change up the theme, and just make it better.

Oh… I’m pretty sure this has been a goal for at least two years and… yeah this one didn’t get done.

Goal #3: Start blogging in Spanish

I’m still not sure if I want to blog in Spanish here on this blog, maybe doing a dual language blog so all posts are in both languages. Or maybe start a whole new blog? I had wanted to do some posts in English and some in Spanish here but I think it might be a little strange having it like that. For example, this blog has always been primarily in English so having half my posts in Spanish would suddenly alienate most of my readers I think. So… New Spanish Blog 2020?

OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE. And I really wanted to do it too! I should work on this again.

Goal #4: Market and engage more

I don’t really market my posts at all except automatic updates to Twitter and, strangely, Facebook. I think I want to try to market on Pinterest again and maybe even Instagram more often. I also want to engage more with not only my comments on my blog (which I’m always falling behind on), but also other blogs and social media.

I most definitely did not do this… I think I started doing Insta stories for awhile but quickly stopped with that. I do engage more quickly with comments though, or at least I’ve tried, but I don’t ever go on the reader portion of WordPress anymore. Oh, that also contributes to the “low” views I think! Since I’m not active on other blogs, I think people eventually stop checking mine, which is totally understandable. I do think that because I have followed so many people over the years I get annoyed at trying to find posts I actually want to read in the Reader, so maybe I should try unfollowing blogs I don’t need to follow anymore to focus on the ones I do enjoy.

Goal #5: Post at least one time per week

Last year I did two times but as I want to do more marketing, maintenance, Spanish blogging, etc. then I think it’s best to stick to once a week. I really don’t want to take any weeks off this year too. Last year I think I took one off completely and did at least one month of blogging half as much as my goal. I’m hoping this will work!

I’m pretty sure I did accomplish this! I’m pretty sure I did blog at least once per week and at some point went back up to two a week. Plus, I did do BirthMay and am currently doing Blogmas so that’s a big win!

Life Goals

And here’s the life goals!

Goal #1: Get a new job

I graduated last year and have had my current job for awhile, which is really boring me now as it’s just not challenging. It’s super fun when it comes to travel and I have some amazing events that I work on, but I just already know everything there is to know for both my job and the one above mine so I feel I need something completely new. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can find!

LOLOLOLOLOL omg I had no idea how this year was going to go when I wrote this… Well, I was furloughed from that boring job and eventually let go (I was not upset by that at all, it was way past time to move on). I still haven’t been able to land a new job but hopefully soon! This pandemic is really making it hard because all my experience is in the travel and events industry which were hit super hard during all this. I’m currently looking at education and marketing positions so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Goal #2: Start dating

Everyone always teases me because although I’m on dating apps, I never am literally spending time on them. I have them but never look at them and that’s no way to get a date! I’ll have to work on that.

This didn’t work out either! With the pandemic I didn’t want to have to do the awkward “oh let’s have a Zoom date” or anything, much less try to meet in person.

Goal #3: Learn to cook and continue to bake

I think I want to really focus on trying to cook this year and, since I enjoyed it, continue to try baking as well. I consider these to be mostly hobbies but baking is fun and cooking seems… necessary? So that’s my goal!

I tried cooking a few things, but I really don’t like the look of raw meat and I don’t find any excitement in making veggie meals. Baking is still fun though and I’ve baked a TON!

Goal #4: Don’t be lazy

I figured I’d add in my resolution here! I just want to stop being lazy as that’s a terrible habit of mine. I don’t mean that I won’t have a lazy weekend here and there, because that would be terrible too, but I do want to be intentionally lazy (aka recognize when I need a low-key weekend) instead of just passively being lazy (aka knowing I have something I could do but choosing to not to just because I don’t want to leave the house).

OMG I think I accomplished this! Sure, I’ve been lazy here and there still but for the most part I have been able to get stuff done. I’ve written a first draft for a book, composed a few songs (in my head because I am not actually fully talented like that), drawn up some clothing designs (too bad I don’t have a sewing machine!), job hunted (unsuccessfully but I have!), and so much more!

Goal #5: Save money

I want to save money! It’s not like I don’t already but I do tend to be quite spendy sometimes so I want curb that. I’d prefer not only to grow my savings overall for a car and/or house payment in the coming years but also to travel more and have a bigger safety net. Overall my expenses are pretty low but so is my salary so I really want to focus on saving.

I’ll be 100% honest, I didn’t actually think I was going to achieve this one. I truly thought I was going to fail miserably and end up with the same amount saved that I’d started with, maybe a few grand more but that’s it. Well, I’ve managed to double my savings! The extra unemployment money was super helpful with this because I do have low expenses still and cut my “fun” spending almost completely as I can’t go anywhere. My plans for my savings are to 1) keep saving 2) buy some land 3) travel once the pandemic is over to celebrate my 30th birthday coming up in May. I hope to find a job soon as my unemployment benefits are due to fully run out soon, but in the meantime I’m just grateful to have a big cushion and not have to stress too much.

So those are my updates on the 2020 goals I created back in January! Next month I’ll have to share the 2021 goals and in the meantime I should actually make some!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Gong through my resolutions from last year is one part hilarious, and one part depressing. I read from my list from dec 2019 “throw atleast 2 house parties” and I said out loud ” GOOD LUCK WITH THAT LADY!” lol

    • Omg I’m so sorry for laughing at your house parties goal! It was mostly out of feeling your pain though! I agree 100% that it is so silly but sad to think of all the hopes and dreams we had for 2020… But fingers crossed for 2021!

  2. Good luck in reaching your goals! What I’ve found to be helpful with getting your views up is engaging more with other bloggers. Basically your #4. You have to remember that this blogging world is already saturated so your posts can easily go unseen unless you always stay on the radar. Of course engage with those whose posts you enjoy and be genuine, otherwise that cannibalism won’t go too far 💖 Good luck!

    • Yes! When I started my blog five years ago it was already a very competitive field but I grew quickly because I was so engaged and involved. It’s even more competitive now and I haven’t kept up with it so that’s honestly why I haven’t grown as fast. But you’re totally right, it has to be genuine because those fake comments can be spotted miles away. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving me your lovely tips and comment! 🙂

    • Thanks so much! I agree it’s great to set goals and I love sharing them. My biggest problem is I write them and share them but then forget them. One of my goals should be remembering my goals honestly!
