If We Were Having Coffee December 2020

Hello everyone! Welcome to Blogmas! Today, let’s grab a coffee and chat!

I think I’m going to go with a drink I found on TikTok that I’m loving! It’s a Starbucks Chestnut Praline Latte with a pump of chai and oat milk. So good! And pricey so I only get it occasionally. But SO GOOD!

Also, as you can see, I’m doing Blogmas again this year! That means I’ll be blogging every day until Christmas. I’ve done Blogmas in 201620172018, and 2019 so I am happy to be participating again in 2020.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I have been officially blogging for 5 years as of the 26th of last month! I completely forgot to mention that last month except at the very start of the month. Whoops! I honestly didn’t expect that I’d be blogging this long. I do think that my passion for blogging has decreased a bit since I started though. I had really amazing growth in years 2-3 but since then I think my blog has really slowed down for so many reasons. Now it’s mostly just something I do because I do enjoy it but I don’t read other blogs like I used to so I feel that I’ve lost a lot of my little blog community from those years. Plus, lots of bloggers I knew have quit or we’ve gone in opposite directions so it’s a weird spot to be in. I do think a blog overhaul is long overdue as I’d been meaning to do that for years, but to be honest, I don’t worry as much anymore that it’s not growing like it had been once. Is that weird? I think it might be but ah well!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that I’m loving having my puppy niece around! She’s visiting again since my sister thought it’d be nice for her to be out here to try and get more walks in, and have her unemployed auntie dote on the little angel. I love that I have her here to cuddle but I worry that my sister misses her doggie too much. I keep joking that I “traded” my car for the dog which I find hilarious! In truth about the car though, I’m not using it and since cases of COVID have been increasing again I offered it to my sister, because she was nervous about taking public transportation to work everyday. Sure, she still comes in contact with many people, as do her roommates, but I thought if I can help lower her contact by even one more person, it’s worth it!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I took last week off from the job hunt because of Thanksgiving and I’m not sure what to do going forward. I’m so annoyed at getting the “thanks but we have other candidates” emails if I get them at all. I’m just not sure how to keep going since it seems to be going nowhere honestly! Hopefully I find something soon though! I’m honestly so bored of doing nothing!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that I try not to participate in the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, just because I feel like if I wouldn’t pay full price for something why would I get it just because it’s on sale, you know? But I did cave with some Taylor Swift merch. I also got Hulu for $1.99 per month and they have so many cool things to watch! Leave me some suggestions because now I need to watch it to make it worth it.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that even though this Christmas season is different, I’m still enjoying it! In fact, I think I appreciate the Christmas magic even more! Should I pitch that idea to Netflix for a Christmas film? I’m thinking “A Very Socially Distant Christmas” is a great working title LOL. But in all honesty, most years I don’t travel to see family anyway, so I’m not really missing that. I also don’t go all out with Christmas activities either so that’s not really something I feel like I need either. It really is about the feeling of Christmas and the season that I love and it’s nice to have that right now!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I’ve been reading so much lately! I run into the problem quite often that I have to wait for books to be available through my library’s ebook app. Lately, even if a book says it will be available in about two months though, I find that I tend to get it way sooner! Or at least it feels like it is that way. I’m thinking maybe people don’t want to wait so they end up getting the physical copy from the library (which do tend to be more available in my experience) or they just buy it maybe. Either way, I appreciate getting the book that much faster!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that I don’t know how to keep my desk clear. I really don’t. I swear, I clean it off every week and after two days everything is back on the desk like nothing happened. I have the dog’s treats, a mountain of pens, my bujo, no less than two books, an additional two journals, mail, my college’s seasonal magazine, and so much more. I’m such a mess!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that I’ve done well with my goal of “don’t be lazy”! I feel like having the puppy niece around both is good and bad for this. It’s good because she gets me outside for her potty time twice a day, even though she does refuse full walks as it’s too cold. It’s bad though because all she wants is to be in bed and cuddle, which isn’t great for productivity! Eventually she settles on her bed in the office though and only occasionally huffs about waiting for me to finish a blog post, job application, ballet class, or whatever else I may be up to in here.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that my other goal, “live with intention”, is spilling over into my Christmas shopping list. Since I’m still unemployed, I’m basically trying to get gifts that the recipients will enjoy. I do want to still get everyone a “fun” gift to wrap and put under the tree, but the main gifts are things I’ve already given them so they can enjoy them early. I do really like gifting a ton and having everyone unwrap a ton of gifts, but I feel like my parents and sister, who are the main recipients of said gifts, would only tell me I should have saved my money anyway! Plus, we did all decide to basically do small gifts this year because it’s just not a year for spending money, we’d rather spend time together! (Via Zoom with my sister, of course!)

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that my last goal of “positivity” is also going well. Again, I’m loving the festive season so it’s not hard to get into the cheery and happy mood of the holidays, which does make positivity an easier mindset to achieve. Plus, there’s a happy little fur baby to spoil!

So that’s what I would share with you if we were having coffee! Let me know what you’d share with me!

Thanks for reading!

Pamela

    • It is SO GOOD! You’re totally right, it is worth the price but my super budget conscious mind right now is saying it’s only worth it every once in awhile LOL. And thank you so much Tina! I do think that it’s just that all the ones so far haven’t been meant for me, so I just need to keep applying to find the right one! 🙂

      • I was going through the job hunt earlier this year in April – it took some time but I landed a job in marketing that I love so much. I hope that Danes happens for you!! Sending all the positive vibes your way!

  1. Hi Pamela.
I don’t think we’ve met and I didn’t recognize you when WP Reader offered your coffee share essay. I’ve been part of a coffee share group for the past (almost) 3 years. But you must be part of a different group. Anyway. This was a fun read and these not-quite random suggestions from WP are fun to wander through and meet new bloggers.

I use my blog as a means to create and share short stories. I write both to entertain and become a better writer.
Stop by visit if you are ever in the market for some simple fun and free reading. And yes, I’ll politely bow out after leaving you with a sample link to test read.

    • Hi Gary, thanks so much for reaching out! I had no idea that coffee share groups were a thing actually! I just saw the style of the post when it got really popular a few years ago and loved it so much I kept it up. As it so happens, I have been looking for short stories to read and enjoy so I’m absolutely going to check out your blog. I’m so glad you stopped by and shared your link.

  2. Hello Pamela. Your note was a great start to my morning. Thanks for dropping by. I too happened across the whole coffee share group thing when I was a new blogger and barely knew what I was doing, but after almost 3 years of spending some time each weekend with a fairly regular gang from around the world, I have some newer (if virtual) friends who I never who have met otherwise.

I cache my coffee share articles beneath one of my main menus and do something you might find handy. With each article, I post near the top the link to that week’s full collection. So, if you go back to any of my essays, you can find everyone who posted that week and click until you’ve had enough virtual coffee to provoke reality withdrawal. These are good people and I think are worth the time to get to know. I will point out that the attendees changed a lot at the beginning of 2021 because our previous host decided to stop doing it after 5 years and Natalie took over. She’s doing a great job and invited a bunch of new folks so both the number of attendees and the general demographics changed. Not better or worse, just different.

This has become such a fulfilling hobby and readers have made me a much better writer / story teller. I’m even getting better at finding my own grammar errors — which is the ultimate challenge in this hobby by far.

Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to your visits to my collection and any reactions you might have. I hope you find plenty to either laugh about or think about.

    Warm regards,
