Hello everyone! I figured it was time to grab a cup of coffee and have a chat now that October has arrived!

This month I’m actually having a Pumpkin Spice Latte because it’s Spooky Season! Is a PSL really a “spooky” drink? Maybe not but just go with it LOL.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I’m still super obsessed with Animal Crossing New Horizons! Especially since there’s a Halloween update! I spend way too much time on the game, in all honesty. I should probably scale it back but it’s fun to play a bit beyond the daily tasks too. I’m thinking I should do an island tour soon though as I’m pretty happy with how my island is coming along so far!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how my plants are doing! I was watering them about once a week but gradually moving towards every two weeks (about a week and a half currently) as I heard they don’t need as much water now that it’s cooler. Frida the Fiddle Leaf Fig is doing pretty good but one of her leaves is getting brown spots so I’m worried it was too soon to start transitioning to every two weeks. At least she tells me! The Calatheas, Elphaba and Glinda, also would like to stick to a weekly watering schedule I think as they have been displaying new, rolled up leaves, but since watering they’ve started to unfurl. I appreciate their communication too!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, job hunting is still coming along! I am trying to be picky about what jobs I apply as I want it to be good, not only pay-wise, but also in terms of the company culture. It’s pretty hard sometimes as some jobs are at tiny companies that might not have that much information published, so it makes it hard to decide if it’s worth spending more time on it or not, but ah well.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I won my library’s summer reading challenge raffle! There was a summer reading challenge where I had to read 1,000 minutes over the course of about 2 months. Everyone got prizes when they signed up, reached 500 minutes, and finished the 1,000 minutes, but there were also two grand prizes for the raffle too! I ended up winning one of them, so I got a $100 Visa gift card! I was thrilled!!! Other prizes were a voucher for free ice cream at a local restaurant, a coloring book, and a cool drawstring bag promoting the 2020 census. Fun!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how recently a former coworker and I were chatting and remembering how close we were to our onsite trip to Houston back in April when the quarantine started. We started talking about other coworkers, then clients we had at our old jobs, and eventually we chatted about how much we always looked forward to that trip to Houston. Unfortunately, we highly doubt we’ll ever get that opportunity again to do such cool trips like that because both of us are looking outside the live events/travel industry for jobs and we’re pretty sure our former company is pretty much done for according to what we’ve heard recently. I certainly do miss the travel even if I don’t miss the toxic managers and department culture!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I’ve started decorating for Halloween! I would like to get a Halloween pillow for my office chair I think, but I haven’t found one I like yet. If I’m going to get one and then have to worry about storing it for 11 months, then I want it to be one that I really like after all! Otherwise, I have a few little decorations that I have pulled out and put around my office. I never decorate outside the house, and I don’t know if trick or treating is going to be a thing or not but I never have candy anyway for the trick or treaters so no worries there!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that the weather is a little colder, the wind is a bit chillier, and sweater weather is officially here in Northern Illinois! I have been loving bundling up although it does make it a bit harder to get outside for my daily walks. I know eventually it’ll be too cold for them, which I’ll be sad about but for now I’m going to focus on enjoying them.
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that my goal of don’t be lazy should really be edited to be “don’t be distracted”. I take way too many Animal Crossing breaks! I’ve started to do something new where I’ll leave my Switch on the charger instead of right next to me so that I’m not tempted to just grab it every five freaking minutes! Instead I’m trying to only play in three sessions a day. Once in the morning, once around noon, and then once more in the evening so I can break up the daily tasks, get the DIYs from my islanders when they’re crafting, or just decorating my island. Now that it’s not brand new anymore it’s a bit easier but I do really enjoy it so I do tend to play a lot still. Plus I do get distracted with YouTube, Netflix, TikTok, and the other usual apps. I really need to get to focusing on my job hunt full time though as I take too many breaks!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, my other goal of live with intention was kind of lost this past month I think. I just feel that I’m finally bored of being mostly at home so even though the intention is to stay healthy at home, it’s just a bit tough some days. Which is such a privileged issue to have honestly, so I do need an attitude check this month!
If we were having coffee I’d tell you, that positivity is at an all time high right now though! It’s a new month, so a fresh start in a way for everything. I’m focusing on that new mindset, on my job hunt, on not getting distracted, and looking to the future with hope. Plus, next month is the election here in the US! After that debate debacle I think a lot of people are finally seeing reason that weren’t before (a neighbor who was the man child’s fan took down their flag out of what I assume was shame) so I’m hopeful we’ll have a new President that we can actually not be constantly embarrassed by soon. In case it’s unclear, I’m Team Biden/Harris all the way!
So that’s what I’d update you on for my life as we start October! Yay for spooky season! Let me know what you’d tell me if we were having coffee. I’d love to know!
Thanks for reading!

Well done on winning your local library raffle! Good on you for looking at job environments as well, not just positions. If the job is good but the environment is negative and catty it won’t be enjoyable.

Thank you! I was so excited to win! And honestly, you’re absolutely right. The work environment wasn’t something I worried about because I got lucky and had a great team for the first few years at my old company. Then I got the WORST team and I will never take a good environment for granted again. I learned so much and I’m grateful for that but yikes, it was a very high cost. Hopefully the next one is amazing!

Yes girl!!! I was the same way when I was on the market for a new job too; there were so many things that I had on my checklist before jumping on the first thing that comes my way. I want to know that I’m picking the best option in hopes that it can be a long term thing! The right one will come your way ❤

Absolutely! It feels like I’m not being as productive at first because I’m focusing on the number completed but after awhile I realized quality over quantity totally applies here! (Hence why I’m also so far behind in replying to my blog comments!) We’ll get to where we need to be when the time comes I’m sure of it! 🙂
