Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to share what I’ve been enjoying this month in terms of all my various hobbies.
Per usual, I have little updates on a ton of categories!
I have to admit, I’ve been slacking on my bujo this month! I really didn’t work much on it at all the second half of the month, when I normally finish up the blank “fun” pages. So I prioritized those this past weekend to get them filled out before starting to work on my September pages. I think I’m due to do another bujo video next month, so that’s exciting!
As always, I’m listing all the books I’ve finished since the previous Lively post below with their star ratings. All thoughts on them are saved for future (or even past!) Mini Book Review posts but those will be linked below if so. I won’t include any books that I didn’t finish although I’ll be sure to add them into the review posts.
This month I read _ books.
- Between Inca Walls by Evelyn Kohl LaTorre *
- Magnolia Table by Joanna Gaines
- A Long Way Home by Saroo Bierley
- City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
- My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
- Well-Read Black Girl by Glory Edim
* Indicates this book was reviewed in Ten Mini Book Reviews Pt. 4. All other titles will be in the upcoming Pt. 5.
The first movie I’ll mention here is Black Panther, which I watched on Disney+. I actually watched this back in July because it was one of the “Toast Movie of the Week” picks (from the YouTube show The Morning Toast). Since I watched it after the July Lively post went up, I thought I’d include it in here. I’ve watched it before so it wasn’t new to me but even so, it’s still a great movie to revisit. I do think that this movie wasn’t as detailed as I’d hoped in regards to explaining the culture of Wakanda. I think it did pretty good, but there was stuff that didn’t make sense sometimes and I think it’s because it’s a movie and therefore they didn’t have unlimited time to explain all the customs of this land. For example, when T’Challa’s ceremony was taking place there was a part where he could be challenged for the crown in ritual combat. M’Baku challenged him and lost, so that was accepted by everyone, M’Baku included. However, N’Jadaka shows up and challenges T’Challa, which T’Challa accepts. I was confused because even though no one knew of N’Jadaka at the time of the ceremony, the fact remains that N’Jadaka missed his opportunity to challenge T’Challa. I think T’Challa perhaps accepted just to leave no room for grumblings about it (and to make for a better story for the film) but I was confused if it was something that was allowed or not. Like, if M’Baku hadn’t challenged T’Challa during the ceremony on the original date would he have been allowed to later, or would he only have been allowed to if he hadn’t shown up to the original date? I’m very confused on that! Either way, the movie is still really good!
Also on Disney+ I watched Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I have decided I should rewatch all the Disney Princess films so I started with Snow’s movie. It was hilarious because I paused the film in one really random part when my dad came in to talk to me about something, he took one look at the screen and said “oh, you’re watching Snow White?” I said yes and asked how he could tell (because literally no characters were on the screen it was just the interior of the cottage kinda blurry because it was paused) and he said “because you would watch it ALL THE TIME”. I guess he’s still traumatized LOL. Anyway, it was super fun to watch again although there were some questionable choices in the film like when Dopey locks the vault but then hangs the key to it RIGHT NEXT TO THE DOOR??? So weird. Also, the Dwarfs didn’t think to grab their bedding from their room before leaving Snow her own separate set when they gave her their room? Another also, they had such a mess downstairs but then their room was super clean? These are the things you notice as an adult I suppose but overall it was so fun to revisit. I think Cinderella is up next!
Currently I’m on season 3 of Madam Secretary. The family’s stalker was finally caught, so that plot line was wrapped up nicely although a little conveniently (the stalker ended up not being someone who was previously introduced). There was an episode where there was a bombing in Elmhurst, Illinois which surprised me. Elmhurst is the town where my university is located so it’s a place I know quite well, and the fact that the bombing happened in a coffee shop when I interned in a coffee shop (social media manager!) was insane to think about. Thankfully this show is very much fiction because that was weird to think about, no lie. The next few episodes I’ve seen have been much more low key in terms of danger but much more high key in terms of drama (elections, am I right?) so I’m glad to be getting these out of the way before elections IRL.
I watched a few episodes of the series One Day at Pixar which is really just shorts of different jobs at Pixar. I found them pretty fun and I love how they picked people of all backgrounds and interests. There were even people who said they accidentally found their careers while others actively pursued it from childhood. It’s super fun to see what goes on behind the scenes.
Musicals & Concerts
No musicals or concerts this month! I did start the ballet Sleeping Beauty on the Royal Opera House’s YouTube channel but they took it down before I could finish it, sadly.
I have to mention Folklore again! I did a reaction post earlier this month to the album. I have really been enjoying this album and am really loving the sound of it. But I am a Taylor Swift fan so honestly, I would have loved it anyway even if it was another pop album or even a (gasp!) country album.
I’ve enjoyed Pamela Reif’s workout videos on YouTube this month as well as a ton of my favorite podcasts! Also on YouTube I’ve loved watching home decor/remodel videos, but I think that’s everyone!
Just listening to the usual podcasts! Those include: The Readheads, You Can Sit With Us, Big Mood, At Home With, The Morning Toast, Not Too Deep, Felicitations, This Might Get, and I believe that’s it!
I’m still playing Hogwarts Mystery. But really, I am so over it. I pretty much just keep playing because it’s a habit but the game is so boring to me now and feels more like a chore. It takes too long to meet goals or milestones now, the developers release new snippets of the game incredibly slowly, and the number of weekly challenges is too annoying! If they’d stop making needless additions to the game and weekly challenges they’d have more time for the story. Again, it’s just a habit at this point and such a boring one at that, but since I’m still mostly staying home then I put up with it.
I played a bit more of Skyrim this month too! I’ve done quite a few quests both in Skyrim and through the DLC Dragonborn. I’m also almost done fully furnishing my homesteads from the Hearthfire DLC too! I fully finished Helijarchan Hall, and the only things left to make in Windstand Manor and Lakeview Manor are the sabre cat and snowy sabre cat mounted heads. I’m travelling all over Skyrim trying to find sabre cat teeth to build them. I’m sure this is all gibberish to anyone who isn’t an Elder Scrolls fan. I also do a few side quests here and there, as I have a ton of those waiting to be completed too.
Oh, I bought a Nintendo Switch! I finally gave into the hype and found one after searching for a few days, as it’s been sold out across the country for months. I managed to get my hands on a grey one, which luckily is the one I wanted anyway! For the Switch, I’ve played quite a bit of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I thought about doing a post series updating my island’s progress but I doubt that’s really interesting to anyone but me, so I’ll just wait to do a bigger review when I’m further along. Plus, I feel like all the big changes happen in the first week and a half or so, and then it’s slow going from there. It’s a really fun and relaxing game, perfect for passing the time while staying home! Since my sister has been playing for far longer, she’s been giving me fun presents in the game too, as well as coming to my island and inviting me to hers! Best sister ever.
Speaking of my sister, she also lent me her Pokemon Shield game. I’ve started that one as well! We both were introduced to video games through Pokemon, so it’s a big throwback for us. This game is so cool though as it’s much more modernized and looks amazing. It’s a whole new fresh feel to the Pokemon franchise for me as the last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon Emerald years ago. For my starter, I picked the fire bunny! I’m sure I’ll do a review on this one too at some point, probably when I finish the game as I just got past the first gym. The second gym is a water gym and I have the fire bunny so… wish me luck!
I wanted to add real quick a few bakes I did at the end of July after the last Lively post! I did make almond butter brownies and blueberry pie bars that I wrote about in my July Bakes post.
I’ve baked a ton in August though, so the next baking post is going to be crazy long. Although you’ll already know a lot of what I’ve baked if you’ve been keeping up with my Instagram! (StarringPamela there too.)
I have mentioned before that I try to go out for a walk around my home at least once a day. On days when I don’t do that, usually Sundays or rainy days, I will usually do a yoga video. I do think it’s one of those things that really needs practice. as I find that I really enjoyed it back in the spring when I did it every day but found it more difficult to get into recently when I do one video every so often. It is literally a mental practice in addition to a physical challenge, so I really want to get back into it regularly once it’s colder out and I can’t get our for walks everyday anymore.
I stated last month that I went to having one evening walk each day when it’s possible. I think one of the most confusing things is how inconsistent all my neighbors seem to be about it. Unless it’s pouring down rain or I have something else going on (which is rare) I don’t miss a day. But my neighbors will miss so many! Also, one some days it feels like everyone is outside, not just for walks but also to garden or mow their lawns or just hang out, and other days it feels like no one is out. It’s very confusing to me. But at any rate it’s nice to get outside and see other humans. Plus, I have my puppy niece here for a bit so when she’s around I actually go twice a day (one mini walkies for her in the morning to go potty and enjoy the sun, and then a full walkies in the evening after dinner so she can go potty again before bed).
I’ve been doing more workouts due to the lack of walks too! If I’m not going for a walk, don’t feel like doing yoga, or even just feeling bored/restless, I’ll put on a workout video or two. I tend to do full body workouts or HIIT/Cardio workouts, but I love ab workouts too. I haven’t done a ton since the puppy niece arrived though, so once she leaves I’ll get back into it!
That’s what I’ve been up to this month! Not going to lie, Animal Crossing has taken up a majority of my time. I figure it’s because I’m trying to make the investment int he console worth it, so that’s how I’m justifying it!
Thanks for reading!
