If We Were Having Coffee – January 2020

Hello everyone! Let’s have our first coffee chat of the year, shall we?

Or should I say the first coffee chat of the decade? I’m so excited! Today, I’m going to have a good ole Starbucks Columbian coffee that I made in my Keurig. I don’t get k-cups anymore because I find it so wasteful but I do get ground coffee bags and then use the reusable k-cup to refill. I feel much better about that!

Oh! And quick announcement post too, I’m going to be blogging once a week on Wednesdays for a bit! I might go back to twice a week later this year but I have a bit of stuff coming up that I wanted to focus on one post weekly for now. Okay, back to the coffee!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how much I wish you have the most amazing 2020 and phenomenal decade! I just have a feeling that the very best is yet to come for you and I’m so excited to hear what awesome new experiences you have!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how I’m looking forward to my upcoming trip to… HOUSTON! I’m going to Houston, Texas for work this month. It’s only a couple of days and I’ll mainly be working of course but I’m still really excited to go back to Houston. I’m staying at a different hotel than normal, which I’m both sad about because I love my usual hotel but also happy because this one has a full Starbucks in it. I can’t wait!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how I’m looking forward to the trip after that to… MEXICO CITY! I try to go to Mexico every year around this time to visit my grandfather. He’s also looking forward to it apparently although I didn’t tell him I was going yet. I think he’s just so used to it now! Since I’m not busy at work around this time of year it’s the perfect time to take off and head to Mexico for a bit to get some recharging done. I’m so excited!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how my puppy niece has visited so much recently! My sister brought her to visit after Thanksgiving because one of her roommates had finals that week and didn’t think he could handle two dogs (their other roommate’s dog and then my sister’s). We loved her so much that we told my sister to bring her back whenever she wanted! So my sister brought her for New Year’s! (She had to work over Christmas.) Arya, or “Ariana” as my dad calls her, is the sweetest little pup ever. She really seems to love the house too because there’s so much room for her to run around and she loves all the attention. My parents are not dog people at all too so that should really tell you something about how lovable she is!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, all about the awesome prank I planned for work. I didn’t go through with it because everyone I told said it was “a bit much” though but it would have been really funny. Long story short, I’ve been joking I was going to get a Cybertruck since it was announced and my coworkers keep poking fun of me for “wanting an ugly car”. So my plan was to preorder a Cybertruck because the deposit was only $100 and it was refundable (and if it ended up not being refundable then guess I get a new Cybertruck?). I was sooooo close to doing it just to have that “thank you” email, print it out to show off, and then cancel the order but in the end decided it was a tad too extra. It still makes me laugh though imagining my coworker’s reactions!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how I got new glasses last month (I completely forgot to put them in my favorites) and I love them! I normally wear contacts, because my old glasses were a little outdated, although I would wear them at night since I really can’t see without them. When I ordered new ones I chose to get the blue light blocker tech in them because I do notice a difference now that I’ve been wearing non-prescription blue light blocker glasses when I have contacts. I also just wanted something new since my old frames were looking really beat up too. I am so happy I did that, and since I used my HSA (health savings account) from work I didn’t have to pay out of pocket for them! Overall they were quite expensive so I’m very thankful that my company does give us HSA as well as offering vision insurance so I was able to get the frames I liked best and the upgrades I wanted without spending such a high amount on my own.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I would also tell you about my other joke at work, how I’m the “unofficial HR manager” at my office. We have HR at work, of course, but we don’t have a manager at the office all the time. Due to that, and the fact that I actually read emails instead of just deleting them, I noticed that a lot of my coworkers started asking me questions about our work policies. Especially after our handbook was changed to our parent company’s and no one really wanted to read it except for me. One of the managers in my department overheard me joking to another member in the department about this and asked me if I was ever going to “pursue” HR officially but I said no. The main reason I gave is because eventually I’d have to fire someone and I’d feel so bad for them that I’d probably start to cry, at which point my coworker started laughing at the thought. But it’s true! I probably would feel so terrible and just cry about it, especially if that employee was crying too. So, I’ll stick with my unofficial role for now which includes answering the question of when we get paid and what the new vacation policies are.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, my new year’s resolution! I normally make a point of NOT making a new year’s resolution and technically I’ve been working on this one already but I figured I’d share. My resolution is to not be lazy! I just notice how lazy I can be with dumb little things. Like if I need to throw something out in my office, like a bag that my Target order came in, I will just leave it on my desk to “remember to take it to the trash bin” which is two seconds away in my bathroom! That’s just me being lazy and it really bothers me. Or how at work I have a pile of papers to take to the recycling bin even though it’s also a two second walk away and I pass it all the time but I just leave them so that I can take a sizable pile. What?? It’s right there! Of course, there’s a few other things too but that’s just some examples. It doesn’t hurt anyone really, but it’s just annoying to me that I do stuff like that so I’m working on it!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, I’m also renewing my commitment to balancing my life out! I feel like I’m doing pretty good at it, but I’d like to really focus on not feeling bad on “unproductive” days when I know I need a break. That’s my main concern right now!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you, how I’m still super dedicated to positivity. I feel like I notice a lot of my friends and family being more positive too, which is really nice to see. I love spreading joy and happiness after all!

So, what would you tell me if we were having coffee? I’d love to know!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Happy New Year, Pamela! I know this is going to be your best year yet, too! ♡ I had never heard of this Cybertruck but I looked it up & laughed. I would have loved to hear how that prank went. 😂 I def need to invest in a pair of glasses with the blue light blocker– even if I don’t have health insurance lol. 😛 & you have the biggest heart– your reasoning for never wanting to pursue HR is so cute. Firing someone would be really hard! & I am lazy like that, too & will also be working on more balance & positivity.

Looking forward to reading about your TX & Mexico trips again this year! ♡

    • Happy New Year (a little late… sorry!) Hunida! Hahaha omg if you haven’t seen the Cybertruck let me know when you do see a picture of it. Everyone either wants it or HATES it, most people fall in the latter! I think it would have been a great prank, since everyone I tell just lets out the biggest laugh! I think it would have been worth it, but everyone also says that it’s sooooo extra. And omg def get the blue light blocker to your next pair but I feel you about not having insurance. I paid out of pocket for my previous pair about six years ago or so and omg it was painful. It’s so crazy expensive! Honestly, it makes me mad when people don’t want healthcare for everyone because it’s not like we wear glasses for nothing… we NEED them! And omg, it’s just that I know that people aren’t expecting to be fired, and I’d hate that they don’t have a choice and feel bad knowing they’re likely not prepared. I mean, some people might deserve it, especially after being told repeatedly how to fix the situation, but still it must be tough to fire someone! And omg love that we’ll have the same goals!!! 🙂

      • Don’t worry about it, seriously! ❤ Happy New Year!

& I looked up the cybertruck lol I think I hate it. 😛 I will for sure be looking into the blue light blocker, with or without insurance, I guess. & totally get you on the whole firing someone thing! It wouldn't feel good at all.

        ❤ ❤
