The Christmas Playlist – Blogmas Day 13

Hello everyone! Welcome to Blogmas Day 13! Today, I’m sharing a fun Christmas Playlist with you.

I wanted to call it the Ultimate Christmas Playlist but that felt like way too much pressure. So here is A Christmas Playlist instead! I’ll be sharing some of my favorite movies, shows, music, and books that really put me in the holiday spirit!

Movies

So the first one is actually one that I watched recently and it was so cute! I enjoyed The Princess Switch on Netflix one night when I was actually writing a blog post and wanted some background noise. I normally don’t watch anything romantic because ick but I like Vanessa Hudgens since her High School Musical days and so I figured why not watch this movie. It ended up capturing my interest and was fun to watch! I might have to watch more of these even though they’re super predictable.

I couldn’t leave out Elf! I love seeing Buddy the Elf explore NYC every year, and it just always puts me in a good mood.

I’m adding in one of my all time favorites, The Ultimate Gift. Now, this isn’t a Christmas specific movie but part of it does take place over Christmas so I thought I’d include it. There’s so many thought-provoking moments in this film for me and maybe for others too.

For me, the Harry Potter series actually are great Christmas films! These are also not necessarily Christmas specific but their Christmas scenes are truly magical. Especially in the first film. My family and I have a tradition of watching all the films in the week after Christmas though so they just really feel like Christmas movies to me.

A film I watched a lot growing up, Home Alone! It’s especially close to home since, well, it’s set in the Chicagoland area! But overall it’s just a fun movie to watch and it’s hilarious to think that the family would leave one of the kids at home on accident.

Finally, there’s many versions of this one but I’ll add in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I remember watching this one so often at school before the winter break, or the teacher reading the book (which I also recommend) so I couldn’t leave it out. It’s just a great Christmas story and well worth the experience every year.

Series

I know I said I was a fan already but I really enjoy The Great British Baking Show Holidays a ton too! It’s so fun to watch holiday creations on the show. I wish I could decorate like the contestants can and make those yummy treats!

I also really enjoy Christmas episodes in different shows. I loved “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas” in Community and “Christmas in the Car” from Bob’s Burgers to name a few. I don’t watch much TV so you guys might have to fill in wish some ideas for TV episodes in the comments!

Music

I don’t have many music options because there’s just so many so I’ll highlight some of my favorites. First up, The Nutcracker of which the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” will always put me in the holiday mood. I love this ballet in general but the Sugar Plum Fairy is absolutely magical!

Otherwise I’ll just list some of my favorite Christmas carols! This includes songs like Carol of the Bells, Do You Hear What I Hear, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and so many more! I’ve played a lot of Christmas songs from my 10+ years in band in school and even a few years I did in choir in middle school or just being forced to sing in younger years for an annual all school singing concert. Fun!

Books

I only have a few books for this part of the list because I don’t really read books that are specifically Christmas I guess! However, I did come up with two that are so Christmas that I enjoyed reading as a child and hopefully you guys did too!

So first up is the classic The Night Before Christmas. I love this story and always enjoy it.

The next one is actually also a movie but the book is more classic for me, The Polar Express. I really love this Christmas story too and always loved imagining the sound of the train and bells. I still love it!

Blogmas/Vlogmas

Finally, I wanted to share some of my favorite Blogmas/Vlogmas content creators with you! I figured it was important to share other people posting for the holidays too, as that’s some of my favorite forms of entertainment this season.

First up, my fellow blogger, K.M. Sutton, is doing Blogmas this year! I love her content because it’s always so happy and positive, so adding in a holiday theme is just magical!

I also have to mention Hunida, who I don’t believe has specifically called it Blogmas but she does blog most (if not all) days and has her blog holiday themed right now, so I’m counting her in. I love reading all her posts and so the holiday ones are just an added bonus!

I don’t think anyone else is really doing Blogmas, although I have seen great holiday themed posts. Even my Blogmas, not everything is just holiday but I do feel sad because it does seem like Blogmas and Vlogmas are less popular this year than they have in the past. On the other hand though, I’m not struggling to keep up with so much content!

For Vlogmas, I’ve watched Zoella’s videos, although she’s not doing videos every day necessarily. I think so far she has mostly done every day but she stated right away she wasn’t planning to do it every day. Still, her videos are full of festive activities and fun to watch!

I’ve been watching RemLife’s and AlisaMarieVlogs’ Vlogmas videos too, especially since their Big Bear trip. They’re part of a group of 10 or so vloggers who take a trip to Big Bear, a mountain location near LA, and so I found a lot of other YouTubers to watch through that but their Vlogmas videos are the ones that I’ve been watching the most.

I’ve been watching a few other Vlogmas videos sporadically, but haven’t watched every single one of other creators as I’m not super interested in each one. Again, there seems to be less people participating overall, which is sad for me, but I know it’s a huge endeavor to blog or vlog every day for 25 days! It makes me appreciate it more when someone does participate though, every day or not!

Now, since this is no longer an “ultimate” list, I encourage you to add to it! Please leave your suggestions below for any additions you have in case anyone else is in need of Christmas cheer.

Thanks for reading!

Pamela

  1. I love Vanessa Hudgens since HSM, too, lol. I watched The Princess Switch last year & LOVED it but, I couldn’t get into that new one they uploaded with her this year. 😛 I’ve never heard of The Ultimate Gift but, I’m gonna look that one up. I’ll never forget the Christmas scene in the first HP, either… so, so magical. ❤ I've never seen the holiday edition of The Great British Baking Show but, I should watch a few episodes before Christmas comes & goes!

That was so, so sweet of you to include me! I didn't really do any Christmas themed posts but, you're right– I do blog nearly everyday LOL. Thank you so much & Merry Christmas Eve!! ❤

    • Omg The Princess Switch was amazing!!! I watched A Christmas Prince: A Royal Baby which is like #3 in the series I think and omg that one was painful (I just didn’t watch it in time for this post so that’s why it’s not on the list). The dialogue and acting… I was just cringing. The Princess Switch def spoiled me because it was SO FUN! I watched part of that new one she did too but it seemed… not as fun haha. Omg you should look up The Ultimate Gift! I hope you like it if you do watch it! And omg, that is still one of my favorite scenes to watch.

Hahahaha I had to include you! Even if it’s not specifically Christmas you’re still a joy and that’s what the season is about anyway! Hope you had an amazing Christmas!!

      • Wow! I wonder if they were rushed to film this 3rd one or something. That sucks it was so painful to watch. 😦 I wish all Christmas movies were as fun as The Princess Switch LOL.

❤ ❤ I hope you had an amazing Christmas, too, Pamela!
