Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share my school bag with you and what I plan to have in it for my classes. Keep reading if you want to check it out! In case you are new, I’m currently a second year graduate student. I’m working towards my MBA with an expected graduation date of May 2019.
If you’re interested in seeing a bit more of my MBA journey thus far feel free to check out the “MBA Life” portion of my blog!
In that section I talk about my journey from when I decided on my program, when I was accepted, started classes, and little updates since then!
I’ll be sad when this journey is over so I’m going to enjoy while it lasts!
So first up is the bag I use. This year I’m using my Vince Camuto Luck Tote that I got in my Fall FabFitFun box (check out that post if you missed it!). I am using the black tote I got as I think the red/brown one will be a gift for either my mom or sister but I just might end up switching between the two. Either way, I picked this bag because it’s light and sturdy. Perfect for school!
Next is the essentials! So for both classes I’ll have a pen, my laptop, chargers, mouse, and wallet. I also plan to have my water bottle as I don’t want to be dehydrated in class! My laptop travels in the maroon Incase laptop case. I got this one years ago in college and it’s holding up well! It’s very soft and padded to keep my laptop safe. Even though I’m careful with it I just don’t want to risk it, you know? I also need my charger because my computer is quite old and I don’t trust it’ll last two hours for class anymore. It made it last week but barely. And I need my mouse because my trackpad doesn’t work so well when clicking and dragging either. I probably should upgrade but, well, it still works so I’m making it work too. For my phone I also carry my charger as I have a car one but my phone doesn’t seem to like it as much (Google Pixel 2 and it’s quite high maintenance). And, of course, a pen is important for note taking if I don’t use the laptop. Call me old school but paper and pen just work better for me because I remember it more! (MacBook Pro, it’s charger, and my phone charger not pictured because they’re busy charging. Such divas!)
Then I have the class specific stuff. I have two classes. One is Corporate Finance which is every week for the entire semester on Thursdays. For that class I have a folder with all the printed out readings. Again, old school but I need it printed to read and highlight. I also have a notebook which is already proving useful as the class has both excel examples but sometimes it’s better to write the little details down quickly while the professor is explaining then. He’s also hilarious so I like to write the random quotes that are funny and won’t make sense later but I will still laugh reading them.
The other class is Leadership. That one is this upcoming weekend and then two weekends from now. I don’t know if we need laptops but I’ll plan to have mine at least at first in case we need them. I also have a folder as we need to turn in papers, bring in articles, and I like to keep the syllabus with me too. Additionally, I have my book for the class. Lastly I have my notebook which I am writing my notes and thoughts on each chapter I’m reading so it’s easier to go back when writing the papers.
I don’t have these classes on the same days ever so I’ll switch back and forth for them. Tis year I’m purposefully keeping my bag light. Other than those items I can imagine I’ll likely stick a cereal bar in there for a snack but I’m trying not to carry much. Last year I was so focused on the fact that my school is a 50mile drive from home and what if I NEEDED something. Well I just came to the realization that I literally drive past many stores that sell anything I could possibly “need” as an emergency like deodorant or something like that so no point in lugging it back and forth because I never actually “need” those items. I just freak out that I’m an hour (at least) from home. Well now I can rest easy and know that there’s a way to avoid those issues. The only thing I would actually make room for is extra contacts as those are not easy to come by if some are needed!
Now, although it’s not for class I do typically have a work out bag of clothes that could do in a pinch if I need to change just in case something tears or I spill or something. And then in the winter I do keep an emergency “overnight” bag in my trunk just in case it snows a lot or the roads get super icey (either expectedly or unexpectedly as you just never know) and I decide to get a hotel room for a night either in my college town, closer to work, or somewhere in the middle depending when I make that call. I haven’t had to use either yet and hopefully I don’t need the emergency one but it’s a piece of mind to know I have it if I need it for any reason. Last year I also kept it in case I was just too tired to drive back home since I was leaving campus past 10pm every night. However I was always okay to drive and this year my class ends at 8:30pm so it works out much better for me.
So that’s my school bag! If you’re interested in seeing my overnight bag that I’ll pack in November or so let me know! I can write up a post on that when I make it. Otherwise let me know what you take in your school bag.
Thanks for reading!

Love the look of your tote! It looks big enough to hold everything in and it looks sturdy 🙂

Thank you! It is so much roomier and sturdier than I thought! I expected a really thin layer of material and the straps to be thin and easy to fall off, but it looks like it will hold up well!

Thank you! I love seeing what other people have in their bags but somehow always forget that’s an option for me too! I’ll have to remember to do more of them when I switch bags haha!

I love this bag. I bought what I thought was an absolutely perfect work bag, and it is in so many ways, but the straps are metal chain link. So when I’m carrying a lot of stuff, it digs into my shoulders. Lesson learned. Also, Pam, May 2019 is just around the corner! I can’t believe you’re almost done. 🙂

Oh no!!! Can you replace the straps and put the chain ones on another bag maybe? Might alter the look too much but it’d be more comfortable! And I know! I can’t believe how fast time is going!

Love these sort of posts! The bag is cute, I totally think you should just keep the red/brown one for yourself so you can switch it up from time to time. 🙂 I think it’s so smart that you pack an overnight bag, too. Of course I’m interested in seeing what goes in there! I’m so nosy, I know lol.
