My Lively July & MBA Update!

Hi everyone! I’m so excited because I have so much to update you on in this post regarding my activity levels and my MBA journey! I didn’t think I’d have anywhere near as much to tell you about but it turns out that I really started to kick it into gear this month, so here we go!

Active Life

Ballet

So first up in my lively section is ballet! In case you’re new, I am currently taking ballet classes once a week through a park district near me. I also took this class last year as it’s only offered in the summer. I absolutely love ballet. Our instructor this year is incorporating more of a workout section in the middle which is nice, and a bit of more intense barre work. For the most part the class does have dance experience or stuff like gymnastics or cheer. The class really ranges in age from teens to older adults which is fun! The teens and I connected last week over the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas and two moms and I connected because they’re just so funny!

At this point, I do consider myself more intermediate now rather than beginner. You have no idea how excited I am that I can now reliably and consistently do turns and leaps! I do feel every class how limiting my current weight is though. I think if I could only lose 20 or so pounds I’d be much better and energetic at it so I really want to try and do some home workouts and get the weight off for next year. I just feel so big and sluggish! Or rather than blame the weight entirely, I am honestly out of shape so I definitely want more of a fit lifestyle. I want to start Blogilates video workouts again and if you have any other favorites let me know!

Oh! Nearly forgot. My instructor was on vacation last week and so she had a substitute teacher planned. She was actually the sub last year when she also had vacation (which is actually traveling for her son’s baseball tournament). Well the sub is currently selling her house and so she wasn’t able to teach us because she was frantically trying to get the house clean and ready to be showed off so one of our classmates actually taught the class. She’s an instructor at the park district as well so she volunteered so it wouldn’t be cancelled. All instructors are different and she normally does more lyrical classes so she incorporated more stretching and work out stuff at the beginning instead of barre and then went into a mini lyrical class. That was so fun! I always thought lyrical was beautiful and that I wouldn’t get to try it as there isn’t really any beginner adult lyrical courses out there. So that was such a fun introduction to it and hopefully it won’t be the last lyrical class I take!

Working Out

Whaaaaaaa? Work out? Me? I know! I can’t believe it either. My work friend and I have started to eat our lunches at our desks two days a week and then using our lunch time to go workout together in the fitness center at our office building. We agreed Mondays and Fridays because our other friend (John, you’ve heard about him tons of times) works in the city on those days so we don’t feel bad about ditching him to eat by himself or anything. As it’s the middle of the day we don’t do anything too crazy, normally just walk on the treadmills for 20 minutes or so, but I think it’s a great start. I try to go on walks around the neighborhood with my mom too so sometimes I get double the walks! It’s great!

MBA Update

Alright, so time for my MBA update! A lot of you have told me you enjoy these portions so hopefully that’s still the case! If you missed any MBA posts please feel free to check out the category for them on my blog site here.

Core Classes

So with the completion of my summer class, I am now done with my core classes! I took 5 of the 6 core classes required and got a waiver for the 6th as I did that one already. I’m going to the same school that I went to for undergrad, so that’s why I already completed it. Instead I got to take Negotiations which I found incredibly useful and I’m very happy I took it. Read more about it in that linked post above!

I got A’s on all my classes except one, which was an A-. I’m super annoyed by it as that means my GPA is only 3.950 but I’m trying to get over it. As my friend Erin points out, that’s still really good and I know it is but I was sooooo close! However I’m really happy the core classes are behind me now. I’m sure going to miss my classmates but I know that I am going to have a few of them in my fall classes so I won’t miss them for long!

Electives

So what’s next? I’m glad you asked! I need 4 more classes to graduate. Three of those I will take in the fall and one in the spring. I’ll leave the spring one a surprise for now and two of the fall ones that don’t start right away but I think I can spoil one of them for you now, don’t you?

So starting in the last week of August I’m going to be back in the classroom for Corporate Finance! I think I’m insane for picking what sounds like a dull course, and I’m not even sure I want to do finance but I do enjoy the challenge and I’ve heard good things about the course. I am looking forward to it! The good news is that the class is all semester so I won’t be in class super late like I was last year. At least, not for this one. The class is on Thursdays from 6pm to 8:30pm so I hope to be back home by 9:30 unlike last year’s 11:20. It’ll be easier on me I’m sure. I’ve heard the homework is difficult but that the professor is great about helping out if you get stuck. The other two classes I’ll talk about in my post next month as I’m not starting them right away.

So that’s all I have for today! Let me know what you’ve been up to either fitness-wise or school-wise. I’d love to know!

Thanks for reading!

  1. I took dance for 3 years and was always hypnotized by the pointe girls and their flawless routines- I wanted to go on to take it, but had multiple toe injuries in the following years, so that’s still a dream of mine if I can ever do it (:
