My 2018-19 Travel Plans! (So far!) – #BirthMay Day 11

Hi everyone! Today I want to share the plans I have for travel so far this year and a little into next!

So at one point around the new year I decided I wanted to travel more. I think this happens to everyone but I really felt it. Then my previous boss who is still kinda my boss told me off while on a work trip that I should travel more so I am taking up her challenge and am now scheduling so many days off for trips that my current boss is so confused (last year I only used half of my days off so they rolled over to this year). So far this year I have gone on two trips, have two more that I am going on which aren’t booked but I am waiting for the days to be approved, and a few more that I may plan.

So in case you missed them I went to Mexico City/Morelia in February and Houston in April. (I’m sure some of you are sick of hearing about them!) Here’s some links in case you missed them!

They were both so fun and so different! My trip to Mexico was mostly to see family although I got a ton of sights in. My trip to Houston was for work so I didn’t get a chance to do much there although next year if I still work at the same company I intend to go and try to fly down and stay a little later. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself a bit.

So with those two trips down I was still itching to plan more. Even though it’s only been a few a few months since the start of the year already my plans look way different.

The next trip I have planned is actually a weekend getaway nearby in either southern Illinois or perhaps Wisconsin or Indiana. One of my coworkers and I decided we wanted to go grape stomping and so she found a few places that do it. We haven’t actually picked one but we really need to get on that so we can go in the summer. She’s a new coworker and already we’ve decided we’re friends although she scared me the first day I saw her because I had been out the week before in Houston and forgotten she was starting that week!

After that I’m planning a trip in the fall. I am currently waiting for a few days to be approved in September so I can take a long weekend to go to NOLA! I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans and I sort of just picked the place and decided I’m going. Then I invited people, specifically my friend Erin and another two coworkers. Well it wasn’t so much an invitation as I said I was going and they said they might tag along. One has said absolutely (and planned way too many activities for one weekend but I’m not stopping her), one said unfortunately not this year but maybe she can make a trip next year (grape stomping friend), and Erin isn’t sure quite yet. I’m determined to make this trip happen though!

Then I am planning a Portugal trip! I have a friend there that I want to see next spring so I’m also waiting for those days to be approved. That one will be tricky because it’s during my busy season but it would fall right after my spring semester class ends (I only have one next year in the spring for the first 8 weeks of the term) and I’m very committed to seeing this one happen too.

Next would be Houston! Again, this would only be if I’m still working at the same company and can manage to get on the onsite team again. I’ve already told everyone to bring me back again in 2019 and it worked this year so keep your fingers crossed!

The next trip was originally was going to be this week but has been pushed to next year maybe! I wanted to try to go to Phoenix, Arizona this week to see my friend Erin who moved down there last year. We had plans to see the Taylor Swift concert together but unfortunately my finals were a week earlier than I though so I couldn’t make it. Therefore that trip was cancelled although I still want to go there sometime next year in the spring. We keep laughing that if I do I could fly in late on a Wednesday, work from her apartment with her on Thursday, we would both take off Friday to go around the city and then then continue exploring until I flew home on Sunday. I think it’s a great idea and I think we may have to do that! I also can’t wait to send out my “working from Erin’s home” email alert HAHA! Nothing is concrete yet like dates or anything but we keep talking about it so it needs to happen.

Also if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child doesn’t announce a US tour within the year I’m booking a trip to NYC to see it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the script but I love Harry Potter and theatre and I need to see this with my own eyes! I’ve heard rumors that the play is supposed to come to Chicago at some point but there were news sources that printed that on accident so I don’t know how reliable those are.

After that would be potentially another European trip. One of my friends from my MBA program and I wanted to make a graduation trip to a few cities in Europe that we both want to see. We both want to go to Barcelona as I miss it from my study abroad days and she’s never been, we’re also thinking Madrid and Rome would be good additions as well. I’m thinking we should do a Spain/Italy sort of thing but I don’t think it would be a very long trip. Maybe only a week and a half so it might be rushed if we try to do too many things!

That’s really all I have so far in terms of travel. I’m focused on spending less so I can travel more and I can’t wait to see if I can get to all of these places. As I was saying, it all depends on how my schedule plays out and my finances so I have to make sure I’m diligent about saving money as well as able to make it work with my work schedule.

At this point, I am planning to get a new job within a year as I’ll be graduating next year in May, but done with classes by March. So a lot can change with that but for now, I’ll keep trying to plan and trying to make it all work!

So where are you headed to next? Let me know!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Oh my gosh! I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans too! If your friends end up all bailing on you, I’ll meet you there! 😉 Reading about your travel plans is giving me serious wanderlust. We did a day vacay in San Diego last week and our next trip is probably going to be to Portland. Oregon! 😄

    • Hey, I have an open invitation to all my friends that want to show up so consider yourself invited! (Last weekend in September is the goal, I’m just waiting for my manager to approve the days before I book LOL.) Omg I reallllllllly want to go to Portland!!! I want to try the Voodoo Donuts HA! San Diego sounds amazing too but everyone likes to tell me how expensive it is. Or maybe that was San Francisco? One of the Sans.
