Hi everyone! I was originally going to stick this post in with my previous one but decided it made more sense to keep them separate. I did these posts in January last year after the end of the year but to be honest it annoyed me so much that I was looking backwards when at that time of the year I only wanted to look forwards. So this year I’m squeezing them in before the new year!
As always, I’m going to take a look at all my hobbies and pastimes. I started my “Lively” series in March but I used to keep these in my “Life” posts because there is some overlap in them. I separated them as I started to get really long posts as I kept loading up my schedule but that’s alright. I do still keep my books separate but I’m thinking in 2018 I’ll combine the books with the Lively post and then my Books post will turn into an MBA post. I have another month to think about it so we’ll see what I end up doing.
Anyway, onto the hobbies!
Active Lifestyle Activities
For anyone that’s new to my blog as of around March of this year I used to take horseback riding lessons. I started in 2016 as I decided I wanted to learn to ride a horse. It was a lifelong goal of mine and so since I’m an adult that earns her own money dollars, I went out and got myself some riding lessons. My favorite horse to ride was Sapphire and I was getting really confident at it. When I stopped riding my instructor had been saying that I could compete in beginner competitions, which I did want to do. I’m super competitive so I totally would have won I’m sure. But when my instructor was over an hour late to our lesson one day and then got all huffy with me because my horse wasn’t ready to go for our lesson although her husband had all the tack I needed on his horse because they were out riding together, I got annoyed, left, and never went back.
I do miss riding terribly and I miss Sapphire a ton but it’s a huge money and time commitment that I couldn’t afford to have nowadays anyway.
So I do run from time to time. I’m better at sticking to it when it’s nice out but overall, I’m quite bad at it. The main reason for this is time as I do enjoy getting to post a selfie after a run on Instagram. (#KeepingItReal)
I don’t live close to the bike path where I run so I have to drive for 20 minutes to get to it. It doesn’t sound like a lot but altogether it’s 40 minutes and since I already drive 40 minutes each way to and from work, I often don’t go after work during the week. Now I’m a student so I really don’t have time for it. I try to go on weekends but even then it’s only weather and schedule permitting.
However when I do run I do feel more energetic and get an overall good feeling for doing something healthy for my lifestyle! I even did a 5k this year, my first since my running days in college about 6 years ago. It was a superhero themed color run hosted my Six Flags. I had a great time and I’m hoping that Six Flags will have another this year so I can go again!
This year I did ballet! I signed up for a summer class and I absolutely loved it! Everyone here also seemed to enjoy my recaps on class so that was nice. For a bit of background, I took an Intro to Ballet class twice in college (there was no intermediate class, it jumped from intro to advanced so I only had the option of doing intro again or not taking ballet, and I figured that I might as well continue). I really did love it in school so I was always looking for the chance to take another and this one finally worked with my schedule and was at a reasonable price. I really enjoyed it and would take it again in the summer if it’s available again.
This year I had some fun trying out yoga! I find YouTube videos to do and have quite a fun time with them although I don’t do them as often as I would like. I have mostly done them before bed but I want to try doing them in the mornings for the rest of this week if I can get up and out of my cozy bed.
Admittedly I haven’t done a lot of writing this year although I do want to. Most years I do NaNoWriMo but this year I was just too busy with school. Most of my writing has been school related now so I’ve done reflections for both my blog and my assignments but I do want to write a novel someday. Or finish one as I’ve started plenty. I want to try reading poetry as I feel that would be something I’d be good at writing although I have never enjoyed reading it. Or perhaps I could try writing a play or a song? The possibilities are endless when you have a pen in your hand.
I won’t list all the movies I’ve seen this year although admittedly the list wouldn’t be that long. I loved a lot of movies that I’ve seen though since I do get quite picky with the movies I do watch. I just don’t enjoy movies that much as they take such a long time. Strangely enough, I don’t have a problem watching 2+ hours of tv shows or YouTube videos though. Here are some of my favorites:
As you can see, I included any reviews I did in the links!
Actually, I don’t watch many shows either. I just prefer YouTube I guess! Here’s some of my favorite shows over the year though.
- Madam Secretary
- Liv & Maddie
- The Office
- Parks & Recreation
Well now I have to talk about YouTube too, don’t I? Although I normally don’t include these in my Lively posts but they make the most sense to add them here. My favorite YouTubers have varied quite a bit but here’s just some of them! (I’m going to limit myself to 10 but this is in no way an all inclusive list, just ten of the gazillion people I love to watch.)
- The SacconeJolys
- PolandBananasBooks (Christine)
- Grace Helbig
- Jenna Marbles
- Hannah Hart
- Tati (GlamLifeGuru)
- Carrie Hope Fletcher
I would name Bloggers too but I’m much too scared that I’ll accidentally leave someone out!
This year I attended 12 musicals! I believe that breaks last year’s record (around 8 or so? I can’t recall the exact number) and I can barely believe it! I reviewed all of these (except Aladdin) so here’s the list and their corresponding links:
- The King and I
- Something Rotten!
- An American in Paris
- Les Miserables
- School of Rock
- Escape to Margaritaville
So since I didn’t do a review on Aladdin (how strange, I totally thought I had!) I linked a different post for you that still covers the day I went to see it. I’d already see Hamilton and Wicked before but all the others were new to me! I did enjoy each and every one of them and while I doubt I’ll see anywhere near this amount in a year again, it’s been a blast seeing them and reviewing them for you!
Six Flags Great America
I’m having serious Six Flags Great America withdrawals now that they’re closed for the year. I absolutely love visiting this theme park which is about 20 minutes from my house. I tend to go on weekends when I’m not working for my dad’s business, attending musicals, or working on school stuff. I love everything about it. The water park is always a blast (especially now that I have a waterproof Lifeproof case and can take selfies there), roller coasters are fun, and the musical shows they do are a wonderful way to spend the day. I get a Gold Season Pass every year which means I get to go in whenever I want for free plus free parking. I also get a Gold Dining Pass which means I get lunch, dinner, and a snack with every visit for free (not really free I guess, since the dining pass costs more than the season pass funnily enough). With one of those I get a sports bottle for free drinks all year (like water and soft drinks, no alcoholic beverages). Since they’re both Gold passes I could technically use them at all Six Flags theme parks! But I haven’t had the chance to go to another one so I haven’t tried that feature out yet. Still, it’s super fun for me and I love going!
Small Business Work
For those of you who may not know, my dad owns his own landscaping business. It’s quite small as he just does it on the side but it does still require quite a bit from me. For one, I’m the administrator so I handle the billing, basic accounting, and interactions with the clients. But I’m also the manual labor when needed/when my schedule allows. So there’s been plenty to keep me busy!
Okay, I think that’s all the major ones! I didn’t include
