Sephora Play Box – August 2017!

Hi everyone! So my second subscription box finally came in, Sephora Play! I know I said in yesterday’s Target Beauty Box post that it hadn’t come in yet, well at the time I shot photos and wrote and scheduled the post it was true. I would have combined them but then that would mean that my August Sephora Play box wouldn’t be posted until September so I figured it was best to post it today.

I know, today is supposed to be a style post but I have been dealing with my dad’s phone issues for the past two days and couldn’t do the post I planned because of it. Long story short (spoiler, it won’t be short), my dad came down stairs to his phone being in “panic mode” one morning and I couldn’t fix it when I came home from work.

My dad’s phone when it actually shows something besides a black screen.

Although Apple kept me on the phone for over an hour and another hour on chat it turns out the phone is impossible to fix. That information came from Best Buy, who was actually honest about the phone status. After talking with Geek Squad and Sprint (our carrier) we decided to go with the Geek Squad option, buying a refurbished phone and sending back the dead one.

Unfortunately, when Apple was leading me on about it being fixable I got locked out of my dad’s icloud account, because his phone was obviously not working and I couldn’t get the code, and I had to get in to be able to turn off the “find my iphone” feature. So then I had to wait 8 hours because it was locked out to request that my cellphone be verified instead of his, then it said I would get a phone call in 16 hours with instructions on how to set up a new password.

About 23 hours later I didn’t get a call so I checked online again and it said 7 days. WHAT? So I called Apple Care AGAIN and my phone must be flagged as a “problem person” now because I immediately got a supervisor (who was actually quite lovely) who, of course, couldn’t do anything to actually help. The only advice anyone has is “wait it out”. In this day and age when we NEED our phones 24/7 this is unacceptable to me. Still I can’t do anything but “wait” which is beyond infuriating!

I can’t wait for a new company to come up with a brand new phone so I can drop Apple fast. They’ve just been causing too many issues for me in the past few weeks and I’m sick of dealing with them. Plus I have homework, blog posts, a video I wanted to edit and upload for Friday (I’m writing this Wednesday and I know it’s not going to be done and uploaded by then for sure so now I have to scramble for another post), and I’m just feeling overall very stressed today. Still, I’ll get through it right??

Did I ever tell you the story of how I dropped Verizon? That’s a fun one too. Thanks for listening though, I had to get that rant out!!!

Anyway, let’s get back to this box!

So a little about this box, it is available through Sephora for $10 a month. It seems to be purely samples and a mix of makeup and skin care. I couldn’t really take a photo of the box because it had a giant sticker with my address on it (not that I don’t trust you… well kinda, there’s almost 800 of you so chances of one of you being a stalker or serial killer are probably high…). But if I could show the box you’d immediately know it’s Sephora because of the white and black stripes. My mom immediately knew it was from Sephora that way!

It came with a cute little letter of sorts and it had various ingredients laid out like a periodic table stating what that ingredient is good for. For example, Avocado oil is found in hair masks and moisturizers and best for hydration and nourishing. Another example, Hugs are found in friends and family and best for positive vibes. Awwwwww!

Each box also comes with 50 Beauty Insider Points that you redeem when you make any purchase at a local Sephora. I believe you can use it at both a Sephora and a JC Penny Sephora. Supposedly you can go to special subscriber events too but they don’t seem to be widely available as the closest I could find was an hour away by my college.

In the letter there was also a list of the products and how to use them! I know that I filled out the survey so the box could be tailored to me a little bit and it seems like it worked. I got colors that I think will match and a fun assortment of stuff.

Everything came in this cute little bag that says “makeup geek” on it. It’s very chemistry inspired, going along with the periodic table so I do see a theme here! Oh, you can see the box in the corner a bit. See what I mean about it being obvious?

The first item I pulled out was this Clarins Body Fit Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert. It claims to lift and firm skin on your legs and hips so that should be interesting to try. I actually haven’t tried anything from Clarins so I’m excited to see how this works.

There was also a little sample of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. I know this is a super popular fragrance but I haven’t tried it yet. I think my mom loves it though so I might give it to her if I don’t like it so much. It’s described as fresh and citrusy with notes of bluebell, white rose, and amber though and that sounds lovely.

Next is the Qhmet Biologics Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee. I don’t think I’ve heard of this brand before but I sure do have tangle loving hair so I’m going to try this ASAP! It says dry hair on the tube but the paper says damp or dry. Oh and I was just thinking “geez I hope this smells good because I don’t like smelly hair” and the paper said “Plus, it smells incredible”. Well that settles that!

Would you believe if I also said I haven’t tried Kat Von D yet? I know! But now I have this little Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Creme in #33 Warm. It’s meant to be an all purpose concealer I believe, under-eye, color corrector, complexion smoother, and super long lasting (24 hour claim). I can’t wait to try it!

Another all purpose item, the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick in Golden Almond. It claims to be highly pigmented and can act as not only foundation, but concealer as well. Even with a high coverage it says it’s lightweight. I am looking forward to trying this.

And last but not least, I also got the Beauty Blender Micro Mini. I don’t use the Beauty Blender but I do use the Real Techniques version from time to time. I’m excited to see how this works and if it is better. Plus it’s so cute! It almost looks like a candy and I kinda want to nom on it but I will resist.

And there you have it! Would I order again? Absolutely! Will I do a review on any of these or the Target Beauty Box products? Probably! (Anything you’re particularly interested in? Let me know!) Even if it is samples, I think that the quality of the products will likely make it worth the price, assuming they live up to what I’ve heard about the brands. I can’t wait to start trying this stuff out!

Let me know if you get the Sephora Play box and, if so, what you got in yours! I think they do change it per person so I am curious. Also, how much do you hate Apple? Let me know! (Lols.)

Thanks for reading!

  1. I never knew there was a Sephora Play box! That little bag is so cute!! I’ve never tried anything Kat Von D either but I’ve always wanted to, I’ve never tried a concealer that beats Tarte so I’d love to read your review on that and the Hourglass one, too!

    Thanks for sharing! 💖

  2. I cannot even with Apple products, that’s what the City uses and I age a little every time my boss asks me to help him with his phone. I’m jealous of the Hourglass and Kat Von D products – good box!
