My June Life!

Hi everyone! Time to share my month of June with you! Today has been quite an adventure all on it’s own. My sweet, sweet Baby Bat (my car) refused to start! Sigh. I hope he’s okay and whatever needs to be fixed won’t be too expensive. I’m hoping it’s just the battery. Anyway, back to June!

It’s been pretty eventful!

If you follow me on Instagram you likely already saw some of this already but I still love to share it on here since I’m sure not everyone is on Instagram and it’s just nice to see it all together. Also I can share more of the story on here!

First up, Food Truck Fridays started up again! I went twice over the month of June. The first time I got a chicken avocado wrap and fries from the Louis B. Fresh truck. I also bought a chai tea latte from the coffee truck, named Swirl’s Cafe I believe. The second time I got a Great Dane grilled cheese sandwich with had bacon in it and cinnamon dough bites from the Toasty Cheese truck. This year the food trucks are running until October as last year they had to extend the dates. I’m excited!

I also adopted two plants this month! One flowering and one aloe. I think my flowering plant didn’t get enough sunlight in my office so it started to die. It lives in my sister’s room as she gets more sunlight now but I think I’ll bring it back to the office once it recovers and just open the blinds more often. My aloe plant is doing great though!

Then I actually forgot to include this in my Lively post last week but my mom, sister, and I have started taking walks around he neighborhood after dinner. We have been stopped a lot because of rain but when we can we do go for a walk.

This month was also our summer outing at my workplace! We went out to the Arlington Racetrack for the horse races on a lovely Friday afternoon. We had been watching the weather anxiously as it was meant to storm all day but luckily that did not happen. It was pretty hot out but we didn’t mind too much. So at the office we are required to go to the outing. That’s right! Forced socialization! It really is required that we all go unless there is a real reason that you have to stay behind and work. Otherwise you have to use your vacation time. Mostly people chose to go.

We had lunch at the office at around noon and hung out together. I managed to locate my team in one of the meeting rooms and joined them once I got my lunch. We ate and had a pretty good time while we waited for it to be time to leave. My sister actually arrived at that time since she’d actually had the day off but came in just for the outing.

Two coworkers of mine with me at the racetrack!

We soon left the office and drove to the racetracks. I was among the first to arrive so the few of us that were at the front of the line when the park opened quickly grabbed a shady area. We sent off the guys to get some of the picnic tables down the hill so we could set up seating for everyone to arrive to. I spent a lot of time with my team because we’re actually quite obsessed with each other. My sister would also join us occasionally. She’s on another team but since we spend a lot of time together everyone’s pretty used to her too!

Anyway, it was quite fun! Everyone got “track bucks” which were gift certificates to either gamble, buy drinks, or shop at the gift store. Most people picked drinks and gambling. I actually didn’t bet but we did get these pretty drinks and kept the cups as nice souvenirs! Erin asked the bartender if we could and she begged us to take them and not bring them back. Works for us!

We had a great time and I finally got to meet my boss’ kids. They were exactly how I thought they’d be given how she describes them. They were very sweet and cute kids, and all three claimed they loved their mother the most when I asked them! They also ran circles around another coworker who ended up having to do handstands in front of everyone with them, including the president of the company and the president of our parent company. We’re definitely the fun department! I also had quite a few conversations with other members of the team and outside of it as well, so it was quite social!

You guys know all about this day don’t you? It’s my Two Musicals Day! I won’t go too much into this one because I talked your ear off about the summer outing and I did that whole post about it. Long story short I went downtown to see The King and I, which I also reviewed, and ended up having an adventure around downtown before the musical and then staying downtown after to see Aladdin. It was quite a day!

This isn’t really an event, just something funny that happened! My sister had a friend visiting from Chicago (the actual city) and since it was Tuesday we went to the library as we usually do (we asked her friend if she wanted to and she did, we didn’t force her or anything haha).

As we headed home I offered to take us to Culver’s to get ice cream. We did all want ice cream so I turned around and headed there instead. Once we got there we thought it was odd there was so many people around and when we entered we were greeted by a lady who said to tell the cashiers we were there to support the local baton team when we ordered, as well as handing us tickets to spin a prize wheel.

We accidentally crashed their fundraiser! Anyway we did as they asked and my sister and her friend entered the raffle with tickets they won from the wheel. I actually ended up buying some tickets and entering the raffle as well, just as they were about to close it for entries.

And I won a prize! Because I was entering last minute I didn’t really get the chance to look at it too closely, but it was a graduation themed prize. Whoops! I just liked the photo frame! The prizes looked cool, there were baton themed clothing and bags, food/cleaning/home-y themed baskets, and free baton lessons. Sadly I did not win the baton lessons. Maybe next time!

And last but not least, it was my 3 year anniversary at my current company! If you had told me three years ago I’d be in the same place I probably wouldn’t have believed you. I would think I would have gotten bored by now or sick of the same place/people/etc. But that’s not the case at all. I love the company and love the team I work with. I actually wrote a blog post about this but not for my blog, it was for a project my department has going on that involves the company Facebook page. I won’t share it on here because it is meant just for my company but I mention it because my friends thought it was funny I was so stressed about it and nervous as I blog regularly. It’s just different doing it for me and representing me than it is representing the entire group. Luckily both my buddies Erin and John approved of my post before I posted it and then Erin hit “post” for me because I couldn’t! I was so nervous! So far I’ve gotten good feedback, I’m glad people like it!

So that’s my month of June! Let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments. I want to know!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Ugh – I wish food trucks would come to my city. St. Paul has them during the summer but I work pretty deep in the ‘burbs. Everything you got looks delicious. Forced socialization sounds like torture but at least it was at the race track and you like the people you work with 😊 Also, who crashes a fundraiser and wins something?! Shame about the baton lessons, better luck next time 😂

  2. Food Trucks come to my neighborhood, but my first time I went to them in my neighborhood was either this May or June. Three Sundays in June was spent at the Pops Symphony: basically an outdoor symphony where you bring snacks and stuff like that to share among the family and friends you come with. Every Friday this summer, I have been volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, a food pantry with my dad.

    • Hope your food trucks are good! I haven’t been to Ravinia but it sounds like it would be my equivalent to your Pops Symphony where they have different concerts of all types of performances during the summer. Same thing, if you get lawn tickets you can bring a picnic! I should go sometime because your post looked so cool! That’s awesome that you and your dad go volunteering! Giving back to your community is amazing!

  3. We have very very few food trucks in my city but I haven’t been to them in MONTHS. I need to go back again you’ve piqued my interest. Also, TWO MUSICALS IN ONE DAY HOW LUCKY!! I haven’t seen a musical live in years, and it was only a local production of Hairspray. I think The King And I is coming down around four hours north of me, so I might make the trip when it does if I can spare the money. Sounds like an eventful month!

  6. Ahh it looks like you had such a fantastic June, Pamela! Those food trucks sound amazing. As do the horse races! I’m so glad that you love your job, and that you get to go on evening walks with your family. I’d love to do the same, but it wouldn’t really work in our neighborhood 😂 I suppose we could walk up and down the street in front of our house, it’s on a hill so the walk back up is a killer, plus there’s a blind curve where cars like to speed at the bottom 🙄 so it’s not really possible for us hahaha!

    • Thanks Maggie! The food trucks are amazing. I wish they would come every week instead of every other week. The horse races were fun but too far for me to go without a specific reason to like the office outing so fingers crossed we do it again! And oh no 😱 safety first!!! I always drive slowly and wait extra time at the stop sign on my street because a neighbor started letting her kids play in the street and now they all do. 😓 I just hope everyone continues to pay attention because it’s just really not safe! We stick to the sidewalks and go around the little park. 🙂

      • You’re welcome! Aw that’s too bad. I’ve only seen food trucks once or twice, I think, and it was from a distance 😂 it was some town event that we passed by but didn’t go to, lol!! Wow kids should not be allowed to play in the street. In the fall, all the kids on our street were obsessed with riding their bikes, and most of them wouldn’t get over in time when a car came by. It was crazy how many times they almost got hit! 😱

      • They ride their bikes or worse, motorized scooters, or play basketball or soccer, and then just chase each other in the street! It’s so annoying and dangerous because most pay attention but of course if they’re playing they don’t notice right away. And their parents are not even watching them! I told my mom it’s really not my job to look out for them, if I wanted to watch kids I’d babysit some! Their parents need to be out there if they’re going to allow that at least!

      • Man, that is so dangerous – especially if there are any blind curves in your neighborhood! We have a ton here – there are lots of hills and trees obscuring drivers’ view. Yeah, really – the kids on our street always stay close to their houses because they’re not usually allowed to wander, but the parents are never outside watching.

      • It’s pretty open but I think that just has the opposite affect where people driving get too confident. Driving into the subdivision the city had to add stop signed half way because people were speeding through. Even drivers don’t pay attention to cars sometimes because it’s such a secluded area so everyone just is too comfortable!
