Hi everyone! I don’t talk about books nearly enough anymore do I? Well today’s tag revolves all around books! Welcome to another Tag Me Tuesday (Thursday Edition)! I’m doing the Disney Princess Book Tag, which I first saw on Mel’s blog The Bookish Wanderer. It sounded so cute so I just had to take part!

Oh and you might have noticed, Tag Me Tuesday (Thursday Edition) has been changed to Tag Me Thursday in the title. I did this for two main reasons. One, my new theme doesn’t really display longer titles well, so I wanted to shorten it a bit. Two, I’ve been doing Thursdays as well as Tuesdays for a month now so I thought a full name change was in order!

And before I forget, I recently hit 400 followers! Thank you so much to everyone who’s supported me thus far! To celebrate, I’m doing a bonus post this weekend in the form of a Q and A. If you have a Q for me, please go to my previous post from this morning and leave me a comment! I’ll A it this weekend (I’m thinking Saturday).

SNOW WHITE (THIS BOOK, LIKE THE MOVIE, STARTED IT ALL) –  Favorite debut book from an author

I’m going to select The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I have always loved the “fantastical” sort of story telling (that’s the only way I can think of to properly describe it!) and this book really helped me realize that there are so many new stories out there with this type of writing that are not the fairy tales of the past. Morgenstern also wrote this book during a NaNoWriMo contest so that’s very inspiring to me!

CINDERELLA (A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH) – Just like Cinderella, you either didn’t expect much out of this character in the beginning but turned out to be a total gem

I’ll pick Winter from Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles. I can’t go too much into this without spoiling the story but Winter ended up being so different than I anticipated and she certainly ended up being one of my favorite characters from the series. I realize I could have picked Cinder but I felt more strongly towards Winter!

AURORA (SLEEPING BEAUTY) – A book that makes you sleepy or just couldn’t hold your attention

I am going to pick RoseBlood by A.G. Howard. I had expected so much more excitement from this book and ultimately it did fall flat for me. Because it wasn’t very exciting I slowly trudged to this book. And then when it was meant to get exciting I was still terribly bored and just couldn’t wait to get to the end to put the book down forever. So yeah, not the best book I’ve ever read! It was pretty hyped us so I didn’t expect that at all.

ARIEL (UNDER THE SEA) – A book with a water/ocean setting

I really enjoyed The Gracekeepers by Kristy Logan. This world is so interesting and I loved the characters of Callanish and North, who both felt so trapped and could only see a way forward once they were brought together by a storm. I also loved how complicated their decisions became and how how much relied on their choices. It is another story that is told in that aforementioned “fantastical” style so that was an added bonus for me. Overall it was just a great story.

BELLE (BEAUTY AND THE BOOKS) – Name a book with the best bookworm/book lover

Is there any other option for this one? Hermione of course! The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling could not have existed without our favorite bookworm. Honestly, Harry would not have even survived his first year without her. He’d literally have died. There would be no series, it would just be the demise of Harry Potter without her!

JASMINE (THE THIEF AND THE PRINCESS) – Name a book with an unlikely love story (either in terms of romance or a book you didn’t expect to love so much)

Can I pick a series for this one? So I don’t really enjoy graphic novels all that much, but the Ms. Marvel series by G. Willow Wilson and art by Adrian Alphona was just incredible! Kamala Khan gains superpowers and becomes a hero for Jersey City, while trying to balance her life at home as a regular Muslim-American teenager. She’s amazing and I still need to get my hands on book 7 soon!

POCAHONTAS (THE REAL LIFE PRINCESS) – Name a book that is based on a real life person you want to/have read

If you’ve been with me for a bit you know that I’m a lady that values education very highly. So when I learned of Malala’s story and read her book, it really inspired me. I don’t know how I’m going to help yet, but ensuring a quality education for all people, particularly females who have a more difficult time getting access to learning materials and into good schools, is something I want to work towards.

MULAN (THE PRINCESS THAT SAVED HER COUNTRY) – Name the fiercest heroine you know

Well I can’t pick Hermione for two questions, can I? I’m selecting Feyre from the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas. She steps forward to save the people she cares about and does everything she can to help. Feyre is often at the disadvantage, she is a human, she’s not experienced in fighting, and so on and so on, but she’s not about to let that stop her!

TIANA (THE PRINCESS WITH THE COOLEST AND MOST DIVERSE CREW) – Name a book with a diverse set of characters, or just diverse in general

The Six of Crows crew for sure! Leigh Bardugo has included many diverse characters in terms of color, disability, sexual orientation, and more. Each character has their own unique traits and their own challenges, so it’s very interesting to get to know each person.

RAPUNZEL (LET YOUR LOOOOONG HAIR DOWN) – Name the longest book you’ve ever read

I went to my Goodreads (StarringPamela there) to check on this. Apparently it’s the Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. I’m not sure if I added the right edition as it says it’s almost 2,000 pages and since it was in 2013 I can’t recall exactly. Otherwise it’s the aforementioned Winter at a little over 800 by Marissa Meyer.

MERIDA (I DETERMINE MY OWN FATE) – A book where there is no love story as one isn’t needed

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire didn’t feature any romance which was such a refreshing change! Nancy, the main character, does not end up in a relationship or love triangle or anything else, nor does she worry about it or think that she should be. Of course, this is a book that features children but these are teens that are featured and that age group seems to be the biggest offender of too much romance.

ANNA/ELSE (FROZEN HEARTS) – A book in a winter/cold setting

The first book that came to mind was The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. I had a ARC of this book from BookCon 2016 when it was in Chicago (so sad it was in NYC this year!) and it was so much fun to read. The story takes place in 14th century Russia and a lot of the story is in the bitter cold winters where Vasya lives. Vasya is an amazing character anyway but the setting definitely helped her story feel more magical and, again, fantastical!

MOANA (HOW FAR I’LL GO) – A character that goes on a journey

I really enjoyed Scarlett’s journey in Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Scarlett not only runs away to go to Caraval, but then has to go on a journey once there to find her sister Tella who disappeared once they arrived. When the game starts, the stakes are raised as whoever finds Tella first is the winner for that year’s Caraval. Scarlett changes so much in the story and it was such an interesting read!
