Hi everyone! I have exciting news! I am going to be traveling to Houston next week for work! I’m super excited! My flight is booked, hotel is booked, comfy shoes have been bought, I’m almost totally prepared. Today I thought I’d get a head start in trying to get all my stuff prepared for travel, or at least figuring out what I want to take.
Today I’m going to focus on my make up and skin care. Now I expect to be working about 12-14 hours per day, on my feet, with little to no breaks for 8 days straight in addition to traveling. I will be flying out to Houston from Chicago on Sunday the 16th (Easter) and flying back the following Sunday. I’m really excited because this is my first work trip working in an “onsite” capacity. If you’ve been with me for awhile you’ll remember I traveled for work in October to Cleveland for an orientation for a mentoring program (that was amazing) through work. That was still a working trip and I was paid for that time, but it wasn’t a traditional travel trip in terms of my position. My company is in event planning so travel usually means going to help our clients with their event. I can’t wait!
I found out that I was going to go to help at this event last week. Last month I had to say no to another opportunity because of my workload but I was able to say yes this time around. None of the events I personally handle require travel, so I hadn’t expected it but there was a shortage in staff and I was asked to help out. This is really exciting for me and I’m really looking forward to the trip.
Enough about work, onto the make up and skin care! Since I’m going to be working long days, I really want to take my long wearing products and I want my most restoring skin care to make sure my skin is getting plenty of restoration. I also have a few random little things as well!
Make up wise I am planning to take a few items. I don’t want to take too much with me because I am only taking a carry on bag. So I’m taking the following:
Face: Benefit Big Easy BB Cream in 05 Beige (I need to get a new one actually this one is almost done! Change of plans! I’ll actually be taking the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Foundation (pictured above)
Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Concealer: Maybelline FitMe! in 25 Medium
Eye Primer: Bissue
Mascara: Estee Lauder Sumptuous
Eye Shadow: H&M Smoky Nudes Palette
Bronzer, Blush, Highlight: Tarte Park Ave Princess Contour Palette
Lip Balm: Lypsyl
Setting Powder: Besame Brightening Vanilla Translucent Powder
Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray (will put some in a travel spray bottle or I might just get a travel sized bottle when I go to Sephora this week)
Eyebrows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown
Lipsticks: Lorac Alter Ego in CEO and Estee Lauder in Rubellite Shimmer
Perfume: Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose
Daytime Moisturizer: Estee Lauder DayWear (will put it in a smaller jar!)
Nighttime Moisturizer: Ole Hendriksen Nuture me (will also scoop some into a smaller jar!)
Nighttime Mask: Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask (another small jar!)
Shower Gel: Lancome Savon Fraichelle (may take the whole thing? Have yet to decide!)
Cleanser: Philosophy Purity
Deodorant: Tom’s Naturally Dry Antiperspirant Deodorant
Random: Colgate Toothpaste (I usually use Tom’s toothpaste as well but I don’t believe there is a travel size version of this!), pink travel toothbrush, contacts for a week plus extras just in case!
More random items aka travel essentials! Tissues, tummy meds, glasses wipes, bandaids, jars for all the larger items I need to take with me, och meds, and nausea/travel meds.
I will also be taking travel sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been using these Suave shampoo and conditioner, keratin infusion and honey infusion respectably.
And luckily everything fits into these two lovely bags! (I tested it twice!) On the left is the “beauty on the fly” Sephora travel bag that I use for the liquids I take with me. When I got this bag you had to buy 5 items (or maybe it was 3? It was awhile ago!) from the little checkout lane area and the bag was free. On the right is a cute rose gold bag I got at Target so that will be all my makeup and other items that do not have to be in the liquids bag.
I believe that’s everything so far! I pretty much only have that and the shoes I bought planned to pack. I do still need to plan outfits which is causing me some stress as it’ll be hot in Houston and probably freezing in the convention center. We’ll see!
What do you make sure to pack when you travel?
Thanks for reading!
I’ve been dying to try that Marc Jacobs foundation. Do you think it would work with dry skin?

Hmmm, to be honest I don’t think it would. It looks matte once it sets, so I think it’s best for oily/combination skin types. I love that it’s long lasting a full coverage but I think it just might make dry skin look even drier. Maybe see if you can get a sample of it first to try out?

Thank you, that’s what I heard which is why I haven’t bought it yet. I’ll get a sample, but I’m pretty sure it won’t work. Thank you xo

I think I will! Probably not beforehand, I think I’ll do an OOTD post after! (I’m wishing with all my heart that my hotel room will have a full length mirror!!!)

If not, you sneak a picture in the elevator, window, hall, whatever. We need to see your business fashion!

Wonderful post, Pamela! xx I’m so excited for saw that you’re bringing a smoky eye palette – I haven’t learned how to do any eye makeup yet (aside from mascara), and I would LOVE to learn how to do

So sorry! I didn’t mean to post it. I’m happy that you’re getting to go on the trip to Houston 🙂 and I was trying to ask (haha) about the smoky eye palette. Do you know how to do smoky eye? I’d love to be able to someday! x

Hahahaha no worries! Yeah I learned from make up artists so I was quite lucky! I think Sephora does classes too but you have to buy a certain amount of stuff or something. Honestly practice is what will help the most!!

That’s good to know! I thought I would probably need help from makeup artists, haha. Thanks!

Yeah who knows if I’ll have the energy to do it but I’m bringing it! It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Look up a YouTube video and practice! I learned after I worked at a retail department store and made friends with the make up department! 😂

Oh, I’m so excited for you! I’ve never been to Texas. You’re probably going at the right time of year – before it gets super hot!
I ❤ the rose gold bag! And your shampoo & conditioner sound like they smell good! I need some night time skin products AND the motivation to use them instead of crashing into bed! Lol

Nor have I! I can’t wait to finally see Texas! I don’t really know what I’m expecting? 😂 but I think it’s supposed to storm all week. That’s the only bummer. Hopefully not!
I found the rose gold bag at Target! I didn’t even know I was traveling yet, I just bought it lol. Just based on smell I recommend the shampoo and conditioner! My mom keeps smelling my hair after I shower 😂 and it’s good overall. I am specifically not taking face wipes so I’m forced to actually wash my face. 🙂
