Final NaNo Update! – 2016 (& Blogmas Plans!)

Hey everyone! I did it!  I won NaNo 2016!

So I’m going to start with NaNo, and go into Blogmas at the end of the post. If you want to read my previous updates click here and here!

I can’t say I was entirely surprised, I did work very hard for it. The last week was very, very easy for me. I stayed on track the entire week and even finished yesterday, the 29th.

That’s why this post is so late. I usually write the night before and schedule for the next day but I was so focused on winning and getting to the end. Whoops!

I really want to rewrite this book. I changed so many things as I was writing, including even the main characters. Because this book is only 50,000 words, or actually 50,064 words to be exact I have a lot to add. (The below stats graph says 50,062 because I forgot to write “the end” and I felt it important to go back and actually write that.)

But yes, it was a successful month. Even with a full time job and various other hobbies and stuff going around, I still managed to meet the word goal almost everyday. That meant a lot of late nights and a lot of fast writing so that means lots of mistakes but still!

Oh the plot needs work, the setting needs to settle, the characters need to show who they are a lot more. Plus there are a ton of extra words everywhere. I know I have way too much descriptions in a lot of parts.

One problem I always have, is that I hate writing dialogue. So often in order to get through the scene I have one giant paragraph describing how everyone feels so you can imagine the conversation. Not very interesting though when reading so I need to go back and add a lot of actual words.

That should add a lot of the character problems I have. I have the main character, six characters that are her squad and therefore are always around, one that was supposed to be a huge character but disappeared after chapter 3ish so he needs to be written out completely and replaced with one of the squad people mentioned previously, and over 10 minor characters (compared to the others, they still have pretty big parts) that weave through the story.

The minor characters actually need to grow a lot more. The villain changed to a whole new character in the last three or so chapters so that needs to be written in entirely.

I have a lot of work to do!

Let me know how your NaNo went if you participated.

Also, I am doing Blogmas so I’m pretty excited for that! Esentially I’ll be posting every day from December 1st to December 24th. I have had such a crazy amount of creativity pouring out thanks to NaNo, so I’m happy to get another way to remain creative. I’m still putting together my schedule so if you have anything you’d like to request let me know!

Thanks for reading!
