Hey everyone! If you missed the update, I’m in Mexico! Because of this I’ve scheduled a few posts for the time I’m gone and will reply to comments when I return.
The plane ride from Chicago to Mexico City is about four to four and a half hours one way. As such, I’ve prepared a few ideas for that time and thought I’d share them with you. Here we go!
Now, I haven’t been on a place since I studied abroad in Barcelona back in 2012. So it’s been awhile. In that time I’ve started getting car sick on long rides and experienced panic attacks, stuff that I hadn’t encountered in 2012. Because of this I’m very worried about the trip as it is a 4 hour journey each way (Chicago O’Hare to Mexico City and vice versa). Plus my grandfather lives outside of Morelia which is a 4 hour bus/car journey each way. Also, our airlines suggested we get to the airport four hours before our flight is scheduled to depart as it’s an international flight so that is also a lot of waiting.
And I’m a very nervous traveler. Long story short, I need to find ways to entertain and distract myself in this time!
My first flight is at 12:20am and arrives after 4am in Mexico City. That’s optimal sleeping time for me so I plan to nap the whole way. Luckily I’m good at sleeping so I don’t foresee a problem. Still, I do have back up plans!
Since I really enjoy reading I’m planning to keep a book with me. I think I’m going to take a very small book if I take any with me at all and then buy a book or two while in Mexico. Since I read slowly in Spanish I don’t think that I’ll go through books as easily. I only hope they’ll fit in my suitcase!
Listen to music
I have four albums saved on my iPad. Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, and 1989 (Taylor Swift’s album) are all saved on there and I’m Hamilton obsessed so I don’t think I’ll need much more than that.
Listen to podcasts
I am constantly behind on podcasts so I plan to listen to a bunch while traveling. If you want to know the podcasts I listen to I did a whole post on them that you can read here. My favorites are Stuff You Should Know and Hello from the Magic Tavern but I really love the History Chicks and Stuff You Missed in History Class too.
I also really enjoy writing. I won’t bring my laptop so it’ll be difficult but I think I’ll bring a notebook as I find it annoying to be trying to type on my iPad. My goal will be to work on an outline for NaNoWriMo, which is a month long contest to write a 50,000 word novel in November. I’ve written for two years without an outline and never really enjoyed the experience as much as I think I would if I were to have a plan.
And that’s it really. Huh, I thought there was more ideas but since it’s only 4 hours and I plan to sleep through a ton of it I think that’s enough. I’m sure there will be some type of in flight entertainment and I’m traveling with my mom so we’ll have plenty of time to chat.
I’m doing my best to travel light and we’re staying with family so I’m not sure what their internet situation is (my guess is very limited) so I’m unable to post updates of my trip as I go but look forward to seeing that when I return!
Thanks for reading!
