Welcome April! Goodbye March! I had a great month. The view from the new office is stunning, I voted during the Illinois primary, and explored C2E2 (more on all of this here)! I have tons of favorites to share so I’ll get to it.
First up is Loot Crate. If you don’t know, Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box full of nerdy things. My sister got me one for Christmas and then kept forgetting to cancel the subscription so I got the Heroes 2 box and the Villains 2 box. I opened my Heroes box back when we first got it but the Villains box was at my sister’s dorm until this month when she came home for spring break. It was a very cute box, I got a Joker figurine which I loved, a Hydra pin (from the Marvel universe) which I thought was adorable, and a few other random things. We have since stopped getting Loot Crate because we didn’t really see the value in the boxes. There were always one or two really good things and then a bunch of random stuff we didn’t really care for. My sister got a few more boxes and we are both considering the April box because it’s going to have a Harry Potter item but we’ll see. If I do get another one I might do an unboxing type of post for it.
I also really loved the Besame Brightening Vanilla Face Powder this month. I previously hauled it back in December in this post here and just recently started using it regularly. I put it on at the very end of my beauty routine (I’ve changed when it goes on my face after putting up my make up routine which you can read here). I really notice a difference after putting this powder on. It really does brighten my face. I ran into a few friends at the break room one morning at work after putting this on and they completely lost track of their conversation to ask what I was wearing on my face. This product is an absolute hit!
Another change from my every day beauty routine has been a lipstick I recently rediscovered. I have added the Laura Mercier Stick Gloss in Courtisane. The “stick gloss” is supposed to be a cross between a lip balm, lip stick, and lip gloss which I guess it is. It definitely has the feel of a balm although the color doesn’t stick too much. It is quite sheer and not very long lasting but as long as I remember to reapply it, it looks great.
And the last change to my make up routine was a sample size of a Lacome mascara that I received a long time ago. Although the name has faded I was able to make out that it is the Definicils High Definition Mascara. I do have to apply two coats but it looks great and adds a lot of volume to my lashes. I probably won’t be purchasing a full size but I did really love it.
My favorite skin care item was the Body Shop’s Seaweed Clarifying Toner. This is actually a product I repurchased before and loved. I stopped using it and switched to the aloe vera toner from the Body Shop because it started to irritate my skin. This month I rediscovered it and use it about once or twice a week. I’ve had a lot of acne this month on the sides of my face and I’ve been trying to clear it up. I don’t often have acne problems so I wasn’t sure what would work and what wouldn’t but so far it seems to be helping. Because the Body Shop has closed it’s closest location to me I likely won’t repurchase it but I’ve already found a potential replacement so I’m not too upset.
My favorite store this month has been TJ Maxx, which is like a large store filled with discounted products, designer and non-designer. From my understanding these stores get the items that are unsold at larger full price retailers at a discount and then sell it at lower prices. The store recently opened outside a nearby mall and my mom and I were randomly in the area during their grand opening this month. We took the opportunity to buy a ton of things including another favorite. My new Nine West bag! It’s a lovely baby blue bag and although it’s huge I love it because I can use it for work and for fun. It’s my new “spring” bag and I’m glad I bought it. I did have to run past a little old lady to make sure I got to the bag before she did but no regrets here.
I won’t go too much into detail about my next two favorites, as I’ll mention them again in my March Books post that I’ll be posting in two days (Friday). My favorite Youtube channel this month is a Booktube channel, PolandBananasBooks, which is hosted by a lovely lady named Christine. I have watched so many of her videos since I discovered her earlier this month and she has definitely inspired me to include more book posts in my blog. My favorite book was To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I’ll add my thoughts on both of these to my Friday post this week!
I have a video favorite for this month as well. My boss recently showed the department a Ted Talk by Shonda Rhimes called “My year of saying yes to everything” for our monthly lunch and learn. Shonda Rhimes is a tv writer and producer. She is also a single mother to three daughters and in her talk she described herself as a “titan” in her field. I absolutely loved her talk where she talked about how incredibly long her list of responsibilities is and how she lost her “hum”. It’s difficult to explain without just repeating her whole talk but it really spoke to me as I could relate to losing my “hum” during college and desperately trying to find it again. Like Shonda, I never got my “hum” back, or at least not that “hum”. But she seems to have found herself a new “hum” and I feel myself finding a new one for myself now. I absolutely recommend this talk to everyone so if you’re interested please click here to see it.
So that’s my favorites! I hope you enjoyed it! I did try to include more “random” favorites rather than only have beauty products as I knew I didn’t have that many. Let me know what your favorites have been for the month of March!
